Use PIA on home wifi for devices?

My PC connects using PIA.  I sometimes connect devices like my phone on my home wifi network.  Should I be using a PIA app on the phone or is that redundant to what the PC is doing with IP address at the router/modem?

If you are connected to PIA using our software on your PC, then it is only protecting your PC. Our software doesn't touch the rest of your network as that would be pretty invasive and probably unwanted. So you do need to run the PIA app on your phone too if you'd like it to be protected by PIA as well.

How can I use PIA to protect products like my kids gaming consoles?

The PIA app is not compatible with gaming consoles, but you can protect them using a router based VPN.

Connecting to PIA on your router can be a great tool to use to protect multiple devices at one time, or to protect any device that we currently do not support. 

Almost any router with VPN capability could work with our service. However, we only offer ready VPN setup guides for routers using specific router firmware. Here is a list of routers compatible with each of the currently supported firmware types: 

DD-WRT -- http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices
Tomato -- http://tomatousb.org/doc:build-types 
Pfsense -- https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/What_hardware_is_supported

However, if you can not locate your router within the above lists, it would appear that we do not support your router or your router does not directly support VPN services.

In all likelihood, you will need to install ("flash") such custom router firmware onto your router. Please be aware that router flashing falls outside our support scope, and doing so would be at your discretion and liability. 

It may be possible to configure VPN use on stock or other firmware, provided it has VPN configuration options, but we would not have a ready guide for its use.

It largely depends whether your WiFi lights use an open protocol and not something proprietary with public/private key security.
