Should there be two instances of pia_manager in task manager?

Hello, if I am running pia_manager as an administrator user from a standard account, should I see two pia_manager processes running in Task Manager? Also, does pia_manager use the "Windows Phone IP over USB Transport (IpOverUsbSvc)" service? When I stopped this service both process instances closed but I was able to reopen it without the service running.

Yes, this is normal! One of the two instances is a supervisory process that will restart the other if it crashes. This is what you should expect to see when PIA is running:

    pia_manager.exe
    pia_manager.exe
    rubyw.exe
    rubyw.exe
    openvpn.exe
    nwjs
    nwjs
    nwjs

We don't use IpOverUsbSvc, so I'm not certain why the manager would have crashed when you ended the service.
  • New guy, please excuse my ignorance. I'm running PIA from my admin account and do not see any instances of "pia_manager.exe" running. I do have the others listed above except only one "rubyw.exe" instead of two. I use Sysinternals' Process Explorer instead of Win7's own TM, but I did check that and it's the same.

And why are your services not digitally signed?  As a first-timer, I find that rather disconcerting...

    Thanks!
