WTH is up with google search agressive capcha while on VPN?

OMG keeps making me input capcha even if i don't clear cookies it randomly ask me to do it AGAIN. This is so annoying obviously not PIA fault but google supposedly respects privacy and all for net neutrality yet making people jump through hoops to use search engine now while connected to VPN.

  • Sounds like you might have fallen on an IP that someone is actively using to abuse Google. Have you tried exiting the app and relaunching it to get a fresh IP?

If the issue persists, can you give us the IP PIA shows in the tooltip when you get the captchas so we can investigate and verify on our end?

also run a virus detector on your system If Microsoft Windows Defender is available to you, use it!
Also run PIA from a  country/city you are nearest. Google has a hernia when suddenly your IP shows up as Karachi instead of wherever!
  • This will happen on a shared IP especially if there are many users searching Google from the same IP at the same time Google may think the IP has a bot running behind it and is performing mass searches.

I know shared IP. Been using PIA for few years now this has never been issue. They need to take step back reevaluate how they handle these situation VPN used more and more now.

  • happns to me mainly with US servers (I'm in Australia) and most often if I'm using the Pale Moon browser on Linux Mint 17.3 -  just change servers and browser and no more problems - 'till next time :)

Now capcha just straight up don't work even with correct inputs just sat here for good 10 min even tried different US servers this is unreal
  • So what are we going completely ignore the fact google search no longer works wile on VPN even correct capcha doesn't work anymore ...just never ending capcha inputs now.
  • @demo23019, try connecting to a different server when this happens. Generally it's because the server you've connected to is under heavy load, and Google is detecting multiple concurrent requests coming from the same IP. They interpret this as likely bot traffic, which is why you're seeing captchas. Switching to a less crowded server will likely resolve the issue.

This has been happening to me on US West and US California server connections.  My Facebook account has been shut down because of this, as has my Yahoo email and a Discus account....all in the last two weeks.  I understand that simultaneous connections from one IP can lead to this, but this problem is not just relegated to a server under heavy load. It also due to a few "bad boys" spambotting away on political sites, from what I'm hearing.  My IT guy reported to me that Yahoo-Facebook-Imgur shared credentials were being blocked with other VPN provider's server IPs....PIA is not alone.  Google has become very aggressive.  Additionally, more email services (Gmail, Yahoo mail) and credit card and banking sites (AMEX, Chase, Wells Fargo) are blocking some server IPs outright....with downright balcklists.  I spoke with an AMEX tier III tech this week and he assured me that Amex has taken an aggressive stance to VPN use and encrypted password services like Lastpass.  They won't allow many VPN connections to log on, and Lastpass credential autofilling is now totally blocked.  Very inconvenient.  Of these, only Wells Fargo will allow a login using 2-factor authentication or an RSA device.  There is now a hot war against VPN use by "we little people" even though the corporate giants are taking advantage of mil-spec encryption schemes...they couldn't care less how difficult they are making our online lives.  I may go back to paying my bills at the bank and having credit card companies sending my statements by snail mail.
  • The google captcha is getting way out of hand. I had to go through several screens at a snails pace to get through it. There has got to be a better solution to this. I still can't send email while PIA is running.

Google capcha don't even work anymore i hate the one that you click and have to wait for next image when in the end it still wont connect.
Ive switched to bing and lol it sucks but no captcha code. Every once in while if bing doesn't find something that i know google would ill try google again and still asking for capcha 99.9% of time...I don't use VPN on my phone so google works works fine so not end of world.
And ducky no better its very limited on search info PLUS and no better than bing still not retrieving stuff google would fine.

That's one reason why I use duckduckgo.com as a default search engine, better privacy is another reason. Sometimes it is necessary to switch to Google for a better search, but usually not.
