PIA app v76? When?

Linux Mint 17.04 becomes unsupported from 13 JAN - PIA App v75 wont work with mint 18.3 (Debian Stretch)

when can we expect V76 please?

  • I don't have any ETA yet, but it's in QA right now. I did the first run of Linux tests on Arch end of last week, doing the second round a bit later today.

If run into a situation where PIA doesn't run anymore, have a look at our NetworkManager setup for a temporary solution. However if you just dist-upgrade Mint, I think the old openssl package will stick around and PIA continue to work just fine (but you might need to apply the fix for the text rendering bug).
  • I too am curious as to when v76 will be released. This month is half over and still no update but I'm aware that you guys have some big changes coming down the pipeline with the next few updates so no one can be mad at you guys because application development takes a long time.
  • @OpenVPN, hang tight! It's still in QA, but if all goes as planned, hopefully not for much longer.

  • thanks Colleen

waiting with baited breath :)  so I can use Mint 18.3 and MX 17

    Can't Wait!
  • Mine arrived today, FYI. Ubuntu 17.10.

Downloaded v76. Questions: Do I need to delete earlier version? How is this done? (Actually, what has changed; in other words, if the earlier version is working well, is it important to update? Are there release notes somewhere?)

@johanpdx No need to delete, just install on top and it will take care of any migrations needed for you.

The update fixes a lot of issues on Linux so if you use Linux I strongly recommend updating. There's a few tweaks on Windows but nothing major. There is apparently a lot of issues on the Mac side of things so if you're on Mac I strongly recommend waiting for the fixed release.

EDIT: Since v76 brings a lot of goodies on Linux, here's the download link for v76 on Linux. I expect a v77 do go out relatively soon with the Mac fixes.

OK, thank you, I'll just unpack it as instructed on the screenshot-illustrated instruction page. (Sorry, forgot to mention that I'm using on latest Ubuntu Linux with Cinnamon. The earlier version worked perfectly on Cinnamon but no menus on default desktop.)
  • I just installed v76 on several Linux computers, and immediately afterwards it was pulled from PIA's website!
  • It sounds like PIA has replaced the ad-hoc v76 download with a proper beta program.  See this post for details:

I see this link is no longer valid.  I go to my control panel and sign up for The PIA® Desktop Beta Program, but only a windows client is available

That's because you selected to participate in the Windows beta first. Sadly it only allows one at once and you can't really go back.

There are ways to get any of the installers don't matter if you are in the windows or mac or linux. I won't say how as PIA don't allow people to participate in all them but if you think hard you will figure it out :P
  • shouldn't there be a way to cancel your Beta program participation? basically reset to status before volunteering?

If I did so it was inadvertently.  I don't recall having the option.

    Thank you.
  • I made the same 'Windows' mistake. But with creative thinking I 'guessed' the Linux download url.
