Use custom nameserver

I have a pi-hole set up locally in my network. I have set my nameservers via `/etc/resolv.conf` to point to this pi-hole.

Now everytime I start PIA via the tray icon my custom resolv.conf is moved and replaced by PIA's nameservers.

Is there any possibility to stop the replacement or at least add custom nameservers to this file?

Thanks in advance!

Ubuntu 16.04
PIA v75

  • It is not possible no, the app is designed to do that.

If you want to keep your DNS servers, I think you'll have better luck using either our NetworkManager setup, or just setup OpenVPN manually with the zip files.
  • Alright, I'll do this. Thank you!
  • it is possible to add lines to an .ovpn file to filter out suggestions/information offered by the VPN server when your VPN client connects. your client will ignore or substitute something else, as you specify. YMMV if you ignore/reject something the server must negotiate with your client. Which DNS servers to use is not going to be problem in any 'normal' use case, though.
