Dallas/Texas server is redirecting my Google search to google.com.ua (Ukraine's google search)

I just got on my computer and tried google searching, and kept getting redirected to the google.com.ua site. tried changing my search engine management in chrome to google.com but it still redirects. Checked my google logs and it does show that it's Ukraine while an IP lookup shows the IP is registered to Dallas. Is this a known issue with PIA? Anyone else having the same experience? I've currently connected to the Chicago server manually (not the auto connect setting) and I'm no longer having the issue.

  • from what i've also seen from reading the threads it looks like my google account got compromised around the same time google saw the texas server as an ukraine IP address. I would recommend turning on 2 factor authentication if you already haven't done so and check your device/account history in google to see if something doesn't seem right. Devices circled in blue aren't my devices.
  • The redirection to Ukraine is "normal" (in the sense, we know about it and it's on Google's end), but the extra devices on your account are definitely not normal. If your traffic really was redirected to Ukraine, I would expect Google to show intruders are from Ukraine as well however, so it indeed sounds like a coincidence to me. The new Texas servers were introduced on the 15th.

I'll make sure to keep an eye out just in case, but even if PIA was compromised Google also encrypts everything so that still doesn't quite add up. 2FA is a really good thing to have!
