MalwareBytes crashes hundreds, if not thousands, of computers 1/27/2018

This morning at approximately 8:30 PST (16:30 UTC) MalwareBytes pushed a protection update and the results caused memory usage to spike. This spike resulted in computers freezing or locking up, or even failing to function.

A fix was pushed at approximately 11:45 PST (19:45 UTC) that fixed the problem.

Hopefully no one here was affected but if you were the issue should be resolved. If you are still having issues please reboot you machine or open MalwareBytes and force an update. The fix version is 1.0.3803

  • Probably not related to this, but for months I have had a terrible time loading Malwarebytes onto my laptop in the first place. I worked with them for weeks last summer power cleaning, reinstalling, working with it in safe mode, etc., before fixing it for a couple months, then I started having all those same problems all over again. (I have W7 Home.)

The problem is, mbam doesn't load with my machine at all, even when I try to start it manually as an admin. It shows in my WTM using 00 CPU and 3,548K in memory, but it's not really running.

Anyone else ever have that problem? If so, how did it get resolved?

Out of the blue, I got an email from MBAM support asking if the thing we worked on last summer ever took, and if there's any problems, we can work on it again. That's first class customer service, right there.
  • This sounds like a total nightmare on a hot sunny day
