Avast blocking Rubyw.exe help

Like the title says PIA won't load after rubyw.exe is blocked. Since Rubyw is created in my temp folder with a randomly generated folder whitelisting the executable isn't possible.

There is a way to set a permanent location for it but was just wanted to ask if there's a better way to deal with this.

  • Hi

Same problem with Comodo (on windows10) and with the latest PIA .exe v76
Didn't have the problem with previous .exe (PIA v75)

    Reinstalling v75 in the meantime.

    Hope you can help.

Did reinstall v75 w/o any problem, it works.
The install process between v76 and v75 isn't the same, v76 seems to be missing something.

    Cheers
  • I am also experiencing this issue. Should I revert back to v75 until a fix has been established?
  • I rolled back to v75  for now. The installer did change, maybe that is part of the issue. I noticed even when I disabled my AV PIA would just get stuck on the connecting stage.
  • In Avast, I added the following exclusion in Settings / Exclusions:

    C:\Users\*Your_User_Name*\AppData\Local\Temp\?.tmp\bin\rubyw.exe

and also to Components / Behavior Shield / Exclusions:

    C:\Users\*Your_User_Name*\Local\Temp\?.tmp\bin\rubyw.exe

This should exclude all the new folders ruby creates in the Temp folder every time.
