V76 doesnt connect - v75 works normally

edited January 2018 in Windows VPN Setup
Windows 10, 64 bit, all updated. Drivers etc.

On V76, Windows says that the TAP-driver is "not connected, plug your ethernet cable", and on v75 no such issue. When I troubleshoot the internet connection while its trying to connect to the VPN-server on v76, Windows says in the "additional information" screen that "PIA - DNS Blocked" or something. The PIA manager doesnt give any errors, its just stuck in Orange-mode.

And yes, I've tried restarting the computer. I have NO additional antivirus/firewall outside Windows defaults.

Maybe the new installer messes up the TAP-driver installation?

  • I just upgraded to V76 on a bunch of Linux and Windows computers and now I see it has been pulled from their website.  It doesn't work on Windows for sure.  Great.
  • I uninstalled v76, and now I can't install v75....the program flashes a command line screen for a couple of seconds and just crashes.  Now that v76 corrupted my computer, is there any way to manually uninstall and reinstall everything.  It is now getting to the point to switch VPN's with all these bad software rleleases.  Thank  god I have the openvpn app as a backup.
  • Hi @pjc123

This guide should help you fully remove PIA so that it installs cleanly for v75. We moved a lot of things so the downgrade is most likely not compatible. https://helpdesk.privateinternetaccess.com/hc/en-us/articles/219498647-How-do-I-uninstall-reinstall-the-PIA-app-on-Windows-

We're still investigating: v76 worked fine on all of our machines but we have an idea what could have happened.
  • @Max-P......Thanks, that worked.
  • @Max-P it didn't fully work for me. I'm now back to running v75 with PIA Mace and DNS leak protection off, because with them enabled I can no longer browse the internet :(
