Problems with multiple user accounts on macOS

Hello, I have a problem using the official PIA client on macOS with multiple user accounts on my system.

The steps to reproduce are the following:
1) Login with UserA on the Mac
2) Start the official PIA client and connect to any server
3) Disconnect and quit the PIA client
4) Via Fast User Switching, switch to another user
5) Start the PIA app
6) Try to connect to any server: PIA won't even try to connect

The workaround for this problem is to either restart the system or to delete all the /tmp/pia_* files and restart the client.

Would it be possible to delete those files when the client application quits? In this way, the problem should be solved.

Comments

  • The workaround with deleting /tmp/pia_* files does not work for me. The app simple won't start when after I logged in to "userB"...
  • Running the application on two user accounts is definitely something we don't support for many reasons, however the app shouldn't be leaving stuff behind in the first place. I have just reported this to the developers :)
  • @pietrodn Can you test the public v76 beta version and see if you still have this issue? I have just tested it out on my test machine and it seems to be working just fine for me, as long as I make sure to exit the app from the first session before switching to the other.

What I see on my end: https://d.max-p.me/pia/forum/29948/mac-user-switch.mp4

(Note, when switching back to my main user it did have a bit of an issue the first launch, but that seems to be caused because the app isn't quite finished closing on the other session. As long as the app is fully closed, it opens back up just fine for me and connects properly)
