USB tethering and vpn

I think what some of the folks didnt know to ask which is my problem.... I use clockworkmod tether for my phone to get data... it requries a tap adapter. PIA requires a tap adapter. well, when you install one or the the other, they just rewrite the connection. my understanding is that a new tap adapter is needed which is easily created, but needs to be signed, blah blah blah.... So how do i create 2 tap adapters and get them to work with each other to go through the vpn? i got to the point where pia will connect on the 2nd tap-adapter (though its not signed or anything), but it wouldn't assign an external ip.

  • You can add more TAP adapters to your computer when using the driver from OpenVPN.

Download and install the latest version here: https://swupdate.openvpn.org/community/releases/tap-windows-9.21.2.exe

Then, go to "C:\Program Files\TAP-Windows\bin" directory, right-click the "addtap.bat" script and select Run as administrator. This worked not long ago for someone else in this thread, so I imagine it should work fine for you too.

It that's what you did already, I would suggest sending us a debug log from the PIA app so we can see if there are any other errors that could be helpful.
  • what i did to fix was implement pia settings into windows 10 vpn via windows 10 settings. that worked...
  • If you switch over to PdaNet, it will just tunnel your internet from the "app side". If you connect the PIA android app, then open the PIA website on your device it will say "protected by PIA" in the top banner without the Windows app running.
