I installed PIA today and now I keep getting Error: ER081 "Unable to Connect" when using WiFi as the preferred connection. Needless to say, something needs attention in PIA. Any ideas?
I'm on T-Mobile, the phone is a new LG6 with Android 7.0 OS. Nowhere in my app do I even see an option to dis or re connect. All I have along that line is to log off/on.
For example, the tick box for "block local access" is unchecked and below it says "Access to local network will be allowed".. When I toggle the box, it says "Reconnect to VPN to allow this change", but again, there's no obvious way way to do this w/o logging off. When I log off, the username and PW are not retained, so I then need to find my cheat sheet to log back on...
Glad you were able to disconnect/reconnect! Have you had any success with WiFi calling? Like Jeff, I've used WiFi calling (typically on Signal) while connected to the VPN. It may be worth trying a few different server locations to make sure the app you're using hasn't blocked a particular IP or IP range for abuse.
No. I've tried several servers within the US and a couple foreign ones, always getting the error 081 message within a few minutes of the change. Do you know exactly what this error means?
We can't really know what the message really means, but since it happens only when on the VPN it's safe to assume it's some kind of error related to being using a VPN and T-Mobile probably doesn't like it.
In the PIA app, there is a section to whitelist specific applications. One suggestion we recommend is trying to whitelist everything and connect the VPN and then verify if WiFi calling/texting works. If it doesn't, out of luck you probably can't have both at the same time with your particular phone model as PIA can't whitelist the phone app. If it does work, that's awesome! From that point, you can start unwhitelisting apps that you want to go to the VPN. Eventually you should be able to find the one that's responsible for WiFi calling so you can leave that one whitelisted to bypass the VPN and you should be good to go!
