Can't disconnect and connect to other locations after v77 upgrade

Hi everyone,

I've been running PIA VPN for a while now on my Xubuntu 16.04 box and it hadn't given me any trouble until recently. Since v75 I'd been having some issues connecting, reconnecting and switching locations, as well as surfing the web after the VPN was off. I solved the issues by running the commands I got from this post:

https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/forum/discussion/22079/can-no-longer-connect-to-internet-when-i-exit-pia-app-ubuntu-16-04#latest

sudo rm /etc/resolv.conf
sudo ln -s /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf

However, after upgrading to v77 this solution no longer works. When I start the machine and connect to the first location, PIA works fine for a while. But if I disconnect and try to connect to another location, it just hangs and nothing happens. PIA also disconnects at any moment for no particular reason. Like I said, recreating the resolv.conf symlink no longer works. Closing PIA and open it again doesn't work either.

The only thing that seems to work is reinstalling PIA--which I've been doing today (I've already done it four times)--but this is not a very comfortable solution.

Any thoughts or ideas on what might be happening?

Thanks for your help.

Could you please send us your debug logs so that I can forward this to the developers? We have made some changes to the way we handle DNS and I think we now support resolvconf, but in any case it shouldn't break DNS as a whole either. Hopefully your logs will give us enough information to see exactly what's up!
  • I'm having similar problems on windows 10. I cannot connect and disconnect to other IP addresses. Not only that it doesn't connect to the initial IP address either. It just attempts to connect.

V77 is unusable for me. I went back v72 which works just fine.

Thanks, Max. I've already followed the link and the instructions and I've generated a ticket. However, I'd like to know if it is OK to roll back to v75, as it is the latest one with which PIA and my PC worked OK, or if there are any security issues in v75 I should be aware of before rolling back. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.
  • @andruv What was the ID you got so I can find it on our systems?

As for downgrading to v75, should be fine. v77 doesn't fix anything critical as far as I'm aware, just a lot of nice to have.
  • Thanks, @Max-P I'm sorry I didn't include the debug ID. This thread has been my first experience with PIA support and I wasn't really sure whether or not I should share that information here  :) .

    My debug ID is 1 1 E 1 4.

I'll keep running v75 then. Thanks again for your help. I appreciate it.
