v.77 App Does not install correctly

edited February 2018 in Linux VPN Setup
I installed v.77.  After completion of installation, tray icon pops up, all seems to work fine.  But if I close the tray icon, I can not get it to reopen.  I click the launcher in my menu and nothing happens.  I look at the properties of the launcher and see "/.pia_manager/pia_manager/run.sh", a location which no longer exists.  How can a get a launcher for the tray icon back?
Never mind, found a new launcher in Other, that needed to be enabled.

My PIA launcher located under "Internet" menu no longer worked as it did for all previous PIA versions.  Looking at the properties of the launcher, it pointed to a directory no longer used by PIA.  So I looked in "Other" menu, and saw a PIA launcher that was hidden.  It did work, so I copied it to my "Internet" menu, (and made it visible)  All is OK.
  • On linux mint 18.1 the installation does not work. Had to return to v.74. :-(
  • @Wollafur Can you detail a bit what exactly doesn't work with v77? Does it show any error message, or just don't open? Or does it not install at all?

I clicked on "run in terminal" but it never opens the terminal. Instead it makes an new empty folder named ".pia_install.1798". So it does not install at all. I tried clicking on "run" instead of "run in terminal", with the same result.
  • @Wollafur Can you try following the instructions on our website exactly? This way we won't depend on your file manager opening a terminal and possibly have it fail so fast that you don't have time to see it open.

Thanks, using the instructions from your link, the installation succeeded.
  • I am attempting to install v78  following the instructions on your downloads page but during install I get the error message

    "~/Downloads $ ./pia-v78-installer-linux.sh
    ./installer_linux/ruby/32/ruby: 1: ./installer_linux/ruby/32/ruby: Syntax error: "(" unexpected"

    Any thoughts or suggestions?
