PIA keeps disconnecting!!!

I've searched and tried all of the suggestions online for this common problem but PIA is a real PITA!
It keeps disconnecting on my Mac.
I changed ports and settings.
I thought it was because of real time protection from MalwareBytes but it still fails after I disabled real time protection.
Would AVAST block it? I disabled the web shield and file shield but still no go.

  • Can you please send us a debug log from the PIA application so we can have a look at what's going on? This should give us all the details of why your VPN is disconnecting so we can work towards fixing this.

Mine is disconnecting also but only when my computer goes to sleep.  Once it wakes up I am disconnected from PIA and have to do a manual reconnect.  I have it setup to auto connect.  i am using v77, this did not occur in v75

  • This has been happening with me also. I have been using PIA for three days, and two of these I woke up in the morning to find my connection exposed. A debug log file has been sent with DEBUG ID [ C 8 6 3 B ]

OTOH it seems to work well when it's on. No other complaints. This is on MacOS 10.11.6. I will try it on my Linux system probably tomorrow.

Incidentally, having just signed up for the forum, your TOS page is missing.

    Thanks!
  • @CJunit According to this log, your VPN has only disconnected a few times due to connection loss, but it seems for some reason the app was unable to talk to OpenVPN at all a few times despite the log showing it did start and connect. Do you run a third-party firewall or antivirus by chance?

I'll probably be more reliable on Linux, OpenVPN generally runs better there and there's definitely less stuff in the way to cause troubles.
  • If anybody is even reading this, v77 is now randomly disconnecting even after short periods of screen saver action or <5 minutes of sleep.  If I don't hear from anybody from PIA in 24 hours I am reverting back to v75.

No, I don't. Except for a fairly basic firewall function in my D-Link router.

I don't know if it's a related problem or not, but once I lose connection with a VPN region, that server no longer offers me a forwarding port anymore. So I am running out of areas to connect from.

I caught the Mac disconnect happening last night, and copied the relevant-looking bits I saw from the Console to a text file which I have attached. When my Mac partition loses its' PIA connection, I have needed to restart the box to get back online. The only other thing I have tried so far is disabling and reenabling the network connection in System Preferences, but that made no difference. I will look up how to bring the network interfaces on and off from the Terminal to try if/when it happens next time.

eta: I don't know if the attachments work, I just included a second one
  • Since I am being ignored, I'll just say I have reverted back to v75 and have no issues.  2013 Mac pro running MacOS 10.13.3

I am on 10.11.6 with computer and disk sleep disabled, and display sleep causes no problems for v77 on my setup, FWIW

Thanks but there are enough differences in our setup that I don't see a path forward.  I have reverted to v75 of PIA and am not having the issues.
  • Hi , I have just got Huawei P Smart , my VPN keeps disconnecting and disabling the recconneting, using 1.5 (246) ,Oreo 8.0, any ideas
  • Same here. Constantly disconnects and right now won't connect at all. Mac High Sierra 10.13.5 PIA v80
  • Your wifi is disconnecting when you log out (screen saver, etc) on your Mac.

    something like:

    sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/Current/Resources/airport en0 prefs DisconnectOnLogout=NO

should fix that. change en0 to match the device name of your wifi card if necessary.

    HOWEVER

My PIA disconnects even though my wifi does not disconnect when my Mac logs out... this totally sucks and I need a solution for that!
