Chrome Extension Auto-Login

So, I don't understand..

When I initially installed and logged into the extension on my Chrome browser, it asked me to enter my username and password.  So, I do that, and then I tick the box that says "Remember Me".  However, every time I reopen the browser, it requests that I type in my username and password again (in a pop-up window that doesn't look the same as the window I initially entered my login info), but if I just click cancel, it seems to work fine anyways.

So, the thing is, it's irritating to have to always click that cancel button every time I just need to use the browser, and why is it asking me to re-enter the login info?  Shouldn't it just remember me if I've ticked the Remember Me box in the first place??!!

I don't have any other extensions installed, and my browser is currently up to date.  I really can't think of any reason it's doing this, and I know others are having the same or similar issues with the extension.

  • This is not the extension asking for your PIA credentials directly. All the extension really does is set the browser's proxy settings to use PIA's servers. It's possible that when Chrome loads, either one of your extensions or your home page tries to load an URL that Chrome doesn't let the extension permission to run into, so it can't add the credentials for the proxy.

That usually happens on Google sign-in pages from within the browser. What page does Chrome load when you open it?
  • My homepage is set to Google Tabs...  So, change my homepage?   That makes sense.  Thanks.

I'll let you know if this problem persists, and thanks for the quick response.
  • Okay, so, after trying a few pages/sites, I used craigslist as my start up page, in Google settings.  And, now I don't get the annoying window on startup.  But, I'm wondering why it only happens on startup, because I can surf to the other sites, without the "authentication required" window, after craigslist loads.  But, whatever, problem is solved for now.

Again, thanks for your awesome service.
  • Pfft...  I guess I jumped the gun.  Apparently, craigslist.org doesn't work either.

So, I dunno, If this keeps jumping up on me, it's worse than the pop-ups I'm trying to avoid in the first place.

So, I'll just stick with the VPN main app and disable the Chrome extension until someone can explain it to me.

Though, i even have a few issues with the main app.  But, I digress...  I'll start some other thread for those.
  • Are you logged into a Google account while on Chrome? Do you have any other extensions, in particular Google ones installed?

There has to be a Google page or another secured Chrome page loading somewhere, be it in the background via an extension or foreground. As I said this is usually via Google's sign-in pages (which are protected by Chrome), but it would happen on any page where Chrome wouldn't allow extension to run.

I know the "Sign-in to Chrome" dialog is one of them (and the one we know about), but any page that leads to an external website within the Chrome's UI (everything that's not a tab) will in theory cause this.
  • Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I have been having this issue also, ever since I signed up for PIA more than a year ago. I even created a ticket, but this was never addressed. I still have the issue. I won't say I've gotten used to it, because it still annoys me. Since the OP didn't seem to follow up, I hope you will allow me to. The popup looks like this: https://imgur.com/a/QJMyy9k Translated: "Log in. The proxy server https://https-sweden.privateinternetaccess.com:80 requires a username and password". Doesn't matter whether you click "log in" or "cancel". The VPN tunnel is established either way. My start page is just the default chrome clear tab. I have also tried selecting other start pages, neither helps. Without knowing exactly how the extension works, I suspect something tries to load before the extension is finished setting up the proxy server settings. It seems as if this only happens, when Chrome starts very fast (timing issue). To provoke this it is also necessary, that you have no other open Chrome windows and also don't have the setting "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed" checked. So basically you need to have Chrome start "fresh" each time. Also worth mentioning: At time of testing I had a completely fresh install of Chrome running without any other extensions or any specific user settings. Hope you have any ideas?
