Can't connect to proxy-nl.privateinternetaccess.com

I am unable to download any torrent using PIA SOCKS 5 proxy. I have been using it for years to download torrents and it has stopped working today.

Client: qBittorrent (4.04) (also tried uTorrent)

I am not using the PIA client in conjunction with qBittorrent. Connection staus on qBittorrent is reading as offline. However it does often read as offline even when I'm successfully downloading. I refreshed my login password on PIA website.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Are you still unable to use the proxy? Just ran a test on my end and it's working fine here!

    What is your ISP?
  • I'm having the same issue. Comcast is my ISP.

Comcast unfortunately officially blocks SOCKS proxies. We have an issue open on our end to look at offering an alternative port but we might be waiting on obfuscation to come first so we can make it not-so-obvious it's another SOCKS port.

  • Comcast has said the block that for years. Try connecting to 46.166.190.151 instead of the proxy-nl address. It should work for you.

I am in the same boat, port 1080 is blocked.  An alternative port would be helpful please.

Located in the UK, using BT internet. Connecting via VPN works fine. However I still can't connect via SOCKS5. I want a list of IP's that proxy-nl runs via to see if any of them work. I pay money for this I expect it to work.

@at_8 I am also based in the UK and with BT. I have tried all the IP Addresses listed https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/forum/discussion/434/utorrent-install-instructions-proxychecker/p1
But none of them work, I'm guessing BT has blocked the socks connection on port 1080.

Let me know if you have better luck :)

I have Comcast as well.  I use PIA and QBitTorrent.  For me it seems like the torrent just will not start downloading sometimes, so this is what I do to get it working:

    1) Start with the VPN turned ON and the Proxy enable in QBitTorrent.
    2) Get the torrent started in QBitTorrent.  Just click OK on the MetaData screen. Don't wait for it to populate.
    3) Tools > Options > Connection.
    4) Set Proxy to None and click the Apply button.
    5) Watch the torrent.  Once it starts downloading, wait about 30 seconds.
    6) Change the Proxy from None back to Socks5, check the Authentication checkbox, and click the OK button.
    7) Turn off VPN to get better speeds through proxy alone.
