connecting forever

ubuntu 116.04.4

My pia is connecting forever.  I submitted a request to fix it.  The reply was of no help at all.  I could not get by the 'disconnect' after pressing the icon (orange).  Since this is a new installation, v78, I have not connected and have nothing to create a new vpn connection I am, basically, screwed.

My hope is that I can get some help here.  I think I will also post this on the ubuntu forum just in case.
I have one log: https://pastebin.com/bfWuxUZD

I have been running with pia for years with no problem then, suddenly, the thing could not connect.  I thought I would get some help but that has failed too.

Any thoughts on this one would be appreciated.

thank you.....................

is it really a new install? i see "latest_version" "65" quite a few times in that log file. doesn't seem right to me.

any chance you have both a new and an old install? and you're running the old instead of the new?

  • We will also need the pia_manager.log and openvpn.log from the log folder. The log you attached is exclusively the tray's log data, so we don't know what happens with the VPN itself.

Also, seconding martouf there, since you have an old install a full reinstall will certainly not hurt as PIA changed a lot in the last few versions so it might not have upgraded properly from v65.
  • Hi. I've had PIA for several years. For the last month or so the icon remains orange saying it's connecting but it never turns green. I'm wondering what to do to get it to connect. Thanks!
  • Try a different connection type or port. These are in the Settings/Connection. Try different remote ports on the UDP and if it still persists, try TCP and the remote ports for that. IF this is not it, then it may be antivirus or firewall blocking the VPN.
