Cloudflare & APNIC's New DNS Service (1.1.1.1)

Comments

  • Would also be interested in people's thoughts on this. And about whether using 1.1.1.1 would be preferable to PIA's DNS servers.
  • I'm recently curious as well!
  • I'm also curious, as I've noticed that DNS resolution with PIA's DNS servers seems to be getting slower lately...

Using this Cloud DNS provider as well as VPN providers DNS, first off the Cloud is extremely fast somewhere between 15-28ms as to VPN DNS 250--281-350ms and it truely shines and it shows in page loading. I'm suffering little in connection issue with regards to Privoxy, ex: Crunch: DNS failure.
  • i tried it for 15 minutes on my router.   every google search took 15 minutes to complete due to search restrictions.

If your timing is like that, then you have config the router either wrong or some other issue is at play.
  • I can confirm that CloudFlare does log as per their policy available at https://blog.cloudflare.com/what-cloudflare-logs/.

As such this policy would counteract our own "No logging. Period." policy which also extends to our DNS servers.

i can use opendns or google dns and it does not do this.    what setting can be wrong if you don't mind sharing?

its requiring me to verify  pictures before i can continue if i was not clear

    I using DD-WRT O/S
    Static DNS section:
    1.1.1.1
    1.0.0.1
    209.222.18.218

All device obtain a dynamic IP connection

P.S Google is by far the slowest of the bunch with google, opendns, cloudflare, sometime I find cloudflare overall the fastest, however saying this, opendns and cloudflare on average share similar ms between the two where as google can be on average in the 90ms+/-.

Can you please expand on the last part of this statement, since the cloudflare only keep there log for 4hrs, they produce a volume of log files the are too large to keep? Are you saying there could a privacy breach?, okay I can understand view, however when it slow url request down, it starts to add up over time. The other thing I wish to know is that if user choices to use external DNS services other than there ISP DNS, can the DNS that logs, still read the users, real IP address or just the Dynamic IP the user is given by there VPN services?
