Trying to setup in DD-WRT using the guide.

 Do I need to install a PIA app?

Only want selected devices to go thru the tunnel.

Have added ip addresses in DD-WRT under policy based routing, does the router log into VPN server and create the tunnel?

Device added in policy based routing  is not using a tunnel.  Router was rebooted after setting up openvpn client.

Hi,

No, if you set up PIA on your router you shouldn't need to set up the PIA app on the devices. That's the whole point of it!

In theory yes, the idea is that your router manages the tunnel to PIA's servers and transparently route selected devices through it. I don't have any experience with that particular feature unfortunately.

I would first recommend setting up the VPN without any special configuration exactly as per the tutorial first to ensure the VPN works so you don't waste your time trying to debug policy routing if the issue is that the VPN doesn't connect (or just to confirm it does).
