Disabling IPv6 in TAPv9 driver causes connectivity failure

Hi. Using Win7-64 Pro. Have had IPv6 disabled in driver for physical NIC practically forever. I recently looked at the TAPv9 driver settings after a recent PIA upgrade and found that most of the "options" were enabled (including IPv6.) I disabled everything in TAP except IPv4 and MS Network Monitor3 driver, which replicates my physical NIC config. PIA runs, and claims to connect to the region of my choice. However, access to internet domains fails (all my usual sites, at least.) Re-enabling IPv6 in TAPv9 restores access. I *do* pass DNS leak and IPv6 enabled test pages with IPv6 enabled in TAP, so hopefully I'm not compromised by this setting. I would, however, be a LOT more comfortable if I understood why I need IPv6 enabled in TAP. Thanks.
