I've updated the latest ios app and it says that Mace has been replaced with "Safari Content Blocker." Does this mean that I no longer have ad/tracker protection on any of the other browser apps I use on my iphone?
I'm baffled why this and my email query asking the same has gotten no responses. The announcement that Mace was replaced is very vague and asking for basic clarity seems reasonable to me.
Basically, my understanding is that Apple wasn't happy with MACE blocking ads on other apps, and they have recently started cracking down on apps that "abuses" the VPN functionality to block ads. Therefore MACE had to be replaces with a Safari Content Blocker to again be in line with the new policies.
You can technically cheat a little and try to load http://209.222.18.222:1111/ in a browser within 2 minutes of connecting the VPN and in theory it should work. The functionality is still there on the server side, the client is just not allowed to have an option to enable it. Not super convenient however as you have to do it everytime the VPN reconnects.
Thanks for the tip, @Max-P. So others know, this does work but you’ll need to replace the IP address with the one you are connected to (as displayed in the app) and then tack on port 1111
@sherlocked The IP I put there should be the correct IP. The API is supposed to live on the DNS server (as this is changing your DNS server internally).
Did it not work as-is? It's possible using your public IP works too but you shouldn't need to.

Thanks Apple ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

209.222.18.222 is one of the PIA DNS servers. This won't change, regardless of what VPN server you're on.
I'd be interested to know what the 2 minutes has to do with it, @Max-P
