Yelp and Groupon

When I'm connected (PIA, Windows, v79 - all settings default, Chrome or Edge) Yelp and Groupon no longer allow me to use their site.   Disconnect PIA and it works fine.

YELP: Sorry, you’re not allowed to access this page.

  • That's because Yelp and Groupon have no way to collecting your data to bombard you with advertising. That is how they make their money. You might want to try a different server like maybe one in Canada. Just saying.
  • There are other more reliable means of "collecting your data to bombard you with advertising," rather than by IP address, such as persistent cookies.

The reason the OP is most likely being blocked is because many have used PIA for spamming and abusive purposes. So those IPs have been blacklisted.
  • There are many reasons. Mine was one. Yours was one.

It isn’t the role of a VPN to block content.  I don’t like Yelp’s data collection but I do use their service.  My only option is to disable my vpn?   Thanks for your opinions on serving ads but that isn’t my problem.   I can manage that issue with tools designed to do so.  And before you bother, there is a reason MACE is off by default.

This is another deficit in PIA.  More sites I cannot use unless I disable my vpn.  Time to Get new IP ranges?
  • Just tested this, and it looks like some regions are blocked, but others are not. I'd recommend trying out some of the newer gateways with these sites.

Thanks but does this mean I have to logout and login to differing regions for different websites?    Doesn't that significant reduce PIA's value?  I can't use a different region for 3 different sites I regularly use??

I can't get any regions west of Atlanta (read you have to see the Atlantic from the server room).    I'm not doing that for all traffic.

The Adobe Creative Cloud is no longer updating when I'm logged in (via the AUTO server connection).  So I guess that's 4 different regions I need to remember?

How do I know what is a "newer" gateway?
