Why Does PIA Report 1 IP And Websites Report Another?

I'm connecting through the Montreal gateway, which reports 173.199.XXX.XXX but I have websites reporting 19.54.XXX.XXX.

  • That's because of the internal traffic shuffling on the servers. The address you exit from is not the same you connect to so it's not an easy 1:1 mapping. The v79 app should display the exit IP however, what version of the desktop client are you on?
  • I believe it was 0.76.  I only just upgraded to 0.79.

This is actually a very good privacy feature, though I've noticed that you're cutting back 'internal traffic shuffling' on locations overseas and your newest locations.

It's a bit complicated, I think a fair chunk of this is a work in progress. At the moment all I can tell is that it's a thing that happens in some of our regions, but it is neither a feature or a bug at the moment. I have noticed that as of recently, on US servers it appears that the exit IP tends to be from a completely different IP block.
