PIA v80 Installation Disaster
Heads up: the PIA v80 for Windows breaks PIA as of 5/22/18.
- v80 fails to install.
- v79 then fails to run.
This is on two different PCs, a Dell XPS and a Surface Pro.
Escape plan: Luckily, I had the .exe to install v79 on each computer. I re-installed v79 and all is good with the world again.

Hello, love your service. Use it all the time.
Hopefully you're already aware that that v80 fails to install on Windows and in fact breaks PIA's previous version as well.
Here are some details of the problem:
- Windows 10 Pro, 1803 on a Dell XPS and a Surface Pro.
- Attempted to install v80 over v79. Installation failed, aborted.
- Aborted installation deleted files necessary to run v79 AND to uninstall v79. v79 no longer runs, cannot uninstall.
- Luckily, I was able to re-install v79 on top of the existing v79 and it started working again.
- When I shared my experience on the forum, two others reported the same experience, but they were unable to re-install v79 on top of v79.
- This is about my 10th PIA version update, and I've always installed over the current version.
- If it is necessary to uninstall the previous version before installing the new version, then please communicate that to mebefore breaking the existing install.
--> NOTE: these are two completely different PCs with very little in common. Installation experience was exactly the same on both PCs.
Curious: why no announcement on the forum about v80? I'm not in the beta-testing group. Was the v80 release premature/accidental?
I look forward to seeing v81! (The version that has all the new features of v80 plus an improved installation experience.)
I'm thankful for your service. Please keep up the good work.
One last thing: It's taking me (so far) ten minutes of fighting with google's Captcha "I'm not a robot" picture challenge. I could do with less tracking on this page, and with less of a hassle with captcha. Seriously annoying.

--> Attempted to submit the above support request, but failed.
--> On clikcing submit, I get a blank screen. Haven't received email confirmation in about 5 minutes, which probably means it failed to submit.
--> This is AFTER enabling 54 scripts, XHRs, and Frames from PIA, Google, and Zendesk. Come on people. Know your customers. I'm not happy about this!
--> There is only ONE script I did not enable because I have no idea what "Zendesk.tv" is or why it would be essential to submitting a support ticket.
--> So far I'm 46 minutes into trying to do something good for PIA, but being frustrated by PIA's support systems.
--> I'm still a fan of PIA, but at this rate I will no longer be attempting to submit support requests in order to help them with continuous improvement.
My big question is this - HOW did it possibly pass QA/UAT testing????!!!! (Was it even done?!) It was available before any announcement - and there is STILL no announcement of its release. Who's the PM on this that could allow that to happen? Any company I've worked for would have them immediately replaced.
SOMEONE is seriously slacking here .........
Those are typically related to external factors like antivirus and firewall updates that's somehow happy with the old version but not the new one.
I have no idea why that happens, especially with the new installers. There is no change at all to the install process or the TAP driver.
