Apple Mail not sending after V80 update

So I was told I needed to get my SMTP whitelisted because apparently, without any notice, the Apple SMPT can't be used anymore. I ask for whitelisting and I am told to put an IP address as SMTP in Mail....the only problem is the iCloud account does not show the SMPT or MAIL options in High Sierra (so I assume they are setup by default by apple). So now I can't send emails...I have no idea where the Ip goes...anyone else having this issue?

  • Yes, this is annoying but understandable from their point of view. They don't want spammers hiding within their VPN services.

I'm having this issue with two accounts now, iCloud being one of them. Oddly, not with Gmail though which also has its server settings hidden from the user (in macOS 10.12 anyway).

PIA could probably afford to rely on Apple's own iCloud mail account abuse monitoring and lift this block, perhaps as they've done with Gmail now. Google switched out the SMTP IPs so often that the SMTP block complaints probably became unmanageable for PIA. Just a guess.

For now, send out on a trusted network with the VPN off I guess and we'll see if anything changes soon as more people discover this thread (hopefully).

  • No mystery, they whitelist certain providers. They just need encouragement to do the same for iCloud now.
  • Same. So tired of dealing with these email issues.
  • I moved my Thunderbird install over to Linux from Windows and starting just today, I cannot send email from any of my gmail accounts, nor from a hoster I use. I disconnect PIA and I can send. Still on .79 There has to be a way around this.
  • I'm also having this problem and ut seems that PIA will have to fix it as I can't see how I can
  • Well this is dandy. I've informed Apple of the issue, but it's a real pain to disconnect just to send an email. It would be really nice for this to work as it did before.
