Port 465 no longer accessible

Hi all,

One way or another, since this evening, port 465 of my ISP isn't accessible anymore.
We've done some tests, and it's definitely due to my VPN connection. As soon as I turn it off, away goes the mail :)

I've tried different VPN sites, but the problem persists.

Is there anyway to whitelist my SMTP host, so I can keep on using mail with VPN enabled?

tnx

  • Little extra info: I use POP mail on my PC, but on my phone I use IMAP, and that seems to be working fine.

That shouldn't be a problem for me. I only use 465

  • Unfortunately, it does affect all outgoing ports. I recommend creating a ticket via our helpdesk here so that we can assist in getting the sever whitelisted for you.

    Will do thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by 'all outgoing'
Does that mean just outgoing SMTP? (25, 365, 587)? or are there more ports I need to be concerned about.
  • Yes, outgoing SMTP ports. Apologies for the confusion!

OK thanks. Well again, if it's just those 3 ports opened, I don't think we've got a problem :)
  • Unless one is living in a cave or using Windows 3.0, just about everyone is using SSL/TLS for their outgoing mail. Since I use Outlook along with Yahoo, Gmail, and Fastmail, they all use SSL for outgoing. But I see that PIAAnna explained.
  • I put a ticket in for this on Sat and haven't heard a peep since. My problem with email sending persists in the meantime.

@blopplop, you can PM one of the support personnel by clicking on your inbox at the top of the page. Select New Message. In the TO: field, enter PIA and a list of support personnel will appear. That is not the complete list, just those that are here in the forums. Be sure to include your current ticket number.

    Thanks for the tip.
  • Hello. Current restrictions on SMTP servers lead me to consider changing from VPN provider. Any recommendations? Do you know if these restrictions are in place in all other VPNs? Thank you very much for your opinion and help. Thank you.
