VPN causes Bravia TV to reboot

Hi,

I've been using the pia app on my bravia android tv since December 2017 with no issues until 4 weeks ago. Now every time I turn the pia client on the tv restarts by itself.

I'm using Oreo since January this year and have had no problems until now. Updated latest firmware today and still issue not resolved.

Have tried openvpn also with the same outcome. Can anyone suggest what the issue may be. Has there been any updates with pia in last few weeks?

I have error logs from adb if anyone wants to view them?

Thanks.

  • Hello dajjohnson

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately - we do not directly support the android TV by Bravia, so there is little troubleshooting we can offer. However - did you manually load the Android .apk of our app onto the device? If not, the Android APK can be found here: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/installer/download_installer_android

If you have the .apk, please try the following:

    - change servers
    - change ports and protocols (tcp/udp)
    - clear cache and cookies
    - performed a clean uninstall/reinstall
(uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling a fresh copy)
    - logged out of the application and reboot the device
(then logged back in to try and connect successfully)

Please let us know if this works for you. Thank you! - PIA Customer Support
  • Hi Bradley, thanks for replying. No this hasn't helped still causes the tv to reboot. I can install your app and also openvpn from the play store on the tv so should be compatible. Have used the app with no issues for year and half. Then without reason it started to cause crashes. Doesn't restart when the vpn isn't running.

@dajjohnson, try this link https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/downloads to the legacy software. You might find the last version you used that worked. Then you can see what changed in the next version. That might lead you to what broke for you
  • Thanks for replies. It's not fixing the issue. And it happens on open vpn too. Sony must have updated a component which is causing the problem, and unfortunately you cant go back to previous firmware 😠

If I post the log would anyone be able to pinpoint the issue?
