How to Setup VPN on iPhone/iOS/iPad

  1. Go to 'Settings' on your iPad and tap on 'General' category. You will see 'VPN' option over there.

  2. Tap on 'VPN' option and select 'Add VPN Configuration'. If you intent to configure multiple VPN services on your iPad, you can use this feature multiple times.

  3. Now you have to select the preferred encryption protocol, you can select from PPTP, L2TP/IPSec and IPSec (Cisco IPSec) from here.

  4. In next step, setup will ask for VPN credentials - enter details 'User Name' and 'Password' given by the VPN provider. Usually these credentials came on your registered email address. Few VPN services also provide preferred VPN server to connect initially. User can switch server later through VPN app.

    Thank you for the instructions. However that set up it for the VPN on the phone that doesn't utilize our App (router set up). Here are the steps to use the VPN on the iOS platform WITH our application:  

    Download our application here: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/download.

    Once downloaded, you input the username and password into the log in field of the application. Here are some visuals:

    1. Log in with YOUR username and password. Please ensure that you are not copying and pasting your login information, as this can sometimes unintentionally pick up leading or trailing spaces. Please try typing making sure that the password is entered correctly as it is CaSe SenSitIve. 


    2. Select LOG IN
    3. Click anywhere in the green boxed area

    . You can select any server in the list that we offer but most users connect via 'AUTO'. 

    5. Then you select the power button of the application to turn on or off the VPN. 


    6. When enabled, you should see a green icon in your task bar or go here:https://www.privateinternetaccess.com and see if the banner up top is green or red. Green is connected, secure while red is disconnected/not secure. After being connected, you simply use the internet as you normally would while being protected.

  • How to set up a VPN service on your iPhone or iPad
    Install the relevant app on your iOS device. Open it and sign into your account.
    After signing in, you'll be prompted to give permission to add a VPN configuration to your iPhone. Tap Allow to have the VPN configured on your iPhone automatically.
    You'll then be prompted to enter your passcode or Touch ID to give permission to change your VPN settings. Enter your passcode, or activate Touch ID.
    Once the VPN is enabled, you can select and connect it at any time without having to open the app again (use the app to change location and adjust other settings).
    1. Launch Settings from your Home screen.
    2. Tap General.
    3. Tap VPN.
    4. If you have more than one, select the VPN client you want to use.
    5. Toggle the Status switch on.
    How to manually configure a VPN on your iPhone or iPad
    With your login information on-hand, you can manually configure a VPN client on your iPhone or iPad.
    1. Launch Settings from your Home screen.
    2. Tap General.
    3. Tap VPN.
    4. Tap Add VPN Configuration.
    5. Tap Type.
    6. Select your VPN type from IKEv2, IPSec, or L2TP.
    7. Tap Back in the upper left corner to go back to the previous screen.
    8. Enter the VPN settings information including description, server, and remote ID.
    9. Enter your authentication login including your username (or certificate), and password.
    10. If you use a proxy, enable it by tapping Manual or Auto, depending on your preferences.
    11. Tap Done.
    12. Under VPN Configurations, toggle the Status switch on.
    When you're done using the VPN, go to Settings > VPN to turn it off. To enable the VPN again in the future. Go to Settings > VPN and toggle the Status switch on.
