New software and how to report slow VPN servers

Hi.

I have been just PIA for almost two years, renew in a few months. During that time it has worked great until this last month.
It seems i find myself no longer connecting to VPN server as my connect is not stable anymore when connected.

I have been switching between the 5 local servers in my area USA michigan, looking for a server that can stream one TV without issues.
I have a 100mpbs connection and at first if downloading something i could max that speed out almost on VPN, never really check speeds after that, but this last month i have had to check all the time and find many times, the max speed of the VPN servers in the 5mbps range, and 100 without VPN.

In the older software right in the menu was a way to report a slow VPN server. That is no longer there in the newer software.
I do not know where to report that i am having problems any more. I went to the support portal and did not see a way to report problems.

Can someone point to the correct way to report issues or get status on the health of the servers in my area.
I can not hunt for a working server each day only to find tomorrow it is slow and not working, as that is what i have been doing and is why i stopped connecting to vpn just to have a working internet connection.

Again for the first 1.7 years i never had a problem but lately it will not stay stable when connected to VPN, but is fine not connected.

Thanks for any help.

  • Hello!

The speed that your ISP provides is based on an ideal, standard internet connection. VPN technology is highly complex and involves a large number of services and factors that can impact the overall speed you would see by using a VPN service.

To see what speeds your ISP is capable of providing to our VPN service, you can run a quick check on our Network page (feel free to try several different servers; you may find that some offer better speeds over your ISP's connection than others):

    https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/network/

Once the VPN service is active on your device, under normal circumstances, you should expect to see a drop in speeds from the rate you saw when you ran the tests above; typically about a 30-60% drop. However, depending on local conditions and the ISPs your traffic traverses, you may see a more significant reduction, sometimes up to 70.
However - have you tried the following:

    - change servers
    - cycling servers
(connect to one server, disconnect, select a different server, disconnect, re-try the original server)
    - change ports and protocols (tcp/udp)
    - upgrading to newest version
    - clear cache and cookies in the browser
    - changed browsers to see if one is faster
    - performed a clean uninstall/reinstall
(uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling a fresh copy)
    - logged out of the application and reboot the device
(then logged back in to try and connect successfully)
    - enable the 'Use Small Packets' setting in the app

These options are not a one simple fix and may be periodically used to connect.

If you are facing a slow VPN server issue consider the following troubleshooting steps.
    Change servers
    Change VPN port/protocol
    Use a wired connection
    Switch devices
    Restart your Modem/Router
    Try IKEv2 (IPSec)
    Temporarily disable local security software
    Restart your Device
    Connecting from another location
