[HELP] - No Internet on DD-WRT Router
G'day guys & girls,
Recently went out and purchased a New Modem/ Router and Separate Router. I am trying to achieve setting up my VPN on my router so that all connections in my home Wired / Ethernet are ALL channeled through my VPN.
Modem / Router: TP-Link Archer VR600v (AC1600) VDASL Modem Router
Router: Netgear R7000P Nighthawk (AC2300)
VPN: Private Internet Access
ISP: Aussie Broadband
I unboxed both the Modem and Router.
Connections are as follows.
MODEM "DSL" ----> Wall Socket
MODEM "LAN1" ----> Router "INTERNET"
PC Ethernet ----> Router "LAN1"
Within a few minutes, I was able to configure both devices and had the internet working no problems.
I then followed a tutorial and was able to successfully Flash my Router with DD-WRT [v3.0-r39960M (06/08/19)]
I then followed this guide triple checking each step.
https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/helpdesk/guides/routers/dd-wrt-3/dd-wrt-openvpn-setup-2
I am unable to access the internet at all and the VPN Status never connects.
I then tried to reset the router and run the standard DD-WRT setting without the VPN on "Automatic DHCP" and I am STILL unable to access the internet.
I've tried resetting and rebooting both devices to no avail.
As soon as I delete the router and plug the PC back into the Modem, the internet resumes without a hitch!
This is driving me bonkers but for whatever reason since flashing the router with the DD-WRT, I am unable to connect to the internet. That being said, I am not sure if there is a specific setting (aside from the VPN stuff) that I am supposed to be inputting.
Comments
PIA assigns an IP gateway address to the router. It might be a 10.x.y.z address. PIA also assigns a network IP address on the same subnet 10.x.y.z. Now, the local machine must match those subnets otherwise they will not work. If the local machine is 192.x.y.z and the router is 10.x.y.z, there will be a network mismatch. Unless you have a route on your local machine from one network to another network (on the router) you will not have internet connection. When you go with no VPN, your routes are probably matched.
I've tried everything....Put modem into bridge mode. rebooted. Reset and re-configured router from scratch. Reset my windows network settings. "kicked' my connection from Aussie Broadband Portal...STILL nothing. I'm about to take a hammer to it.
This is what I get when trying to check the status of the VPN.
