DD-WRT v3.0 / Netgear V6300v2 - VPN connection failed, router provided unprotected internet access

The VPN connection failed in OpenVPN but an internet connection was still provided.  Is there a setting so that the router doesn't provide internet access if the VPN fails?

Thanks

  • Since you are using OpenVPN I am sure there is a configuration for that. There are also Firewalls such as Comodo that will prevent internet access if the MAC address of the TAP Adapter changes.

Do a google on OpenVPN Kill Switch.
  • I recommend putting in a ticket in with us here: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/helpdesk/new-ticket. I specialize in router issues so you may request to assign me the ticket. To cut out a step, please include the following information:
    • What make/model is your router (e.g., ASUS RT-AC3100)?
    • What firmware and build number is your router running (e.g., DD-WRT r33257)?
    • Are you receiving any error message or other alerts (and if so, what does it say)?
    • To prevent duplicate effort, what troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

Additionally, please take screenshots of the OpenVPN client in your router, as well as the Commands section of the Admin tab, and send them to us for review.

Also, please go into the Status tab of the router, then the OpenVPN tab, and send us the OpenVPN log there.

To obtain a debug log for Tomato based routers, click the Status tab in your router (left side of the screen), then click the Logs link. On the screen in the white area, under Logs, please click on View All. Please copy and paste the resulting text into a text file (e.g., TextEdit, etc.), save the file, and attach it to your reply.
