Extremely high latency?

Every now and then my internet connection comes to a grinding halt, and ping shows times as high as 2-3s, a problem typically solved by disconnecting from PIA. There is an possibility that my ISP is the culprit here, filtering PIA traffic, but I'd like to sort this out. Are there any settings I could play with? I'm connecting through OpenVPN.

What port/Protocol are you currently using?
 Try a different port first, see if the same thing happens:

Switched to udp, port 1197.
Let's see what happens.

Seems to work, so far. I guess we'll never know why tcp has worked for almost half a year, until recently.
