pandora.com won't load

Last time this happened I complained to Pandora only to find out it was a PIA issue.  Anyone else having this problem?

  • Yes...I just posted this. Pandora is blocking PIA again. I turned off the VPN on my router and immediately could connect. With the VPN on nothing would connect to Pandora including the web browser.
  • I was curious to see if Pandora was working with my VPN connection. It did not. So I decided to ping Pandora and got an IP address, but no ping return. Next I did a trace route to their IP address and find that Pandora is a part of Amazon. I did not know that. PIA has had issues with Amazon before and this might be residual.
  • TURN YOUR VPN OFF...Then try... PANDORA will work fine with your VPN OFF. Then turn it back on and you will see it will not work again. This happens frequently. It's not PIA's fault. They restore it to working every few weeks I assume by shifting IP addresses. Then the A-Holes at Pandora do it again in another week or so...And even if you are a paying customer they do not care.

  • And by the way it was working fine yesterday with the PIA VPN ON.

  • Just because it works when your VPN is turned off doesn't necessarily mean this is a Pandora problem. Like I said, last time this happened I blamed Pandora, they said "we don't offically support VPN connections but we aren't blocking".  And then PIA fixed the problem.  And when they fixed it, Amazon started working again also.  I guess I need to open a support case with PIA
  • Sorry to hear that you have been having issues with Pandora.  First, ensure that our program is using our DNS.

Now try connecting to several different servers.  Each server has a different pool of IP addresses, you may be able to find one that is not being blocked.

If you are using the desktop version of our program and PIA DNS does not allow for a connection, try changing it to Handshake.  You can find this on the Network tab in our program's Settings menu.
  • Nice, @PIAMarc! I'm not a Pandora user but I do like to try different options you guys suggest. 'Handshake' worked. Well, at least the Pandora website opened.

    Good on ya, mate!

I use PIA DNS. Changing to Handshake works on my desktop, but I primarily listen to Pandora on Android devices where the PIA client does not seem to offer the Handshake option. What does this option actually do?

When I attempt to load pandora.com, Firefox says "Performing a TLS handshake...", then a few seconds later I get the message "PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR". Edge browser fails with message "Can't connect securely...This might be because the site uses outdated or unsafe TLS security settings."

This doesn't act like a blocked IP. I tried multiple servers just in case but they all fail. Have the cipher lists been changed? Certain TLS support removed or something?
  • When will this be fixed. I do NOT use the PIA Application for home use but rather have OPENVPN/PIA configured on my ROUTER. It's been a week now and Pandora is still BLOCKED. I have to disable the VPN setup on my router to use Pandora. It has not taken this long in the past for this to be corrected. I understand if the Honchos are on leave this week but would greatly appreciate if this was fixed. I do not want to drop the VPN on my router just to use Pandora. I have far too many computers and devices to use the PIA VPN Application at home.

I agree too I hope that this problem will be quickly resolved.

So I was out on Public WiFi today on my laptop and decided to try the "Handshake" instead of using the PIA DNS selection...
As stated previously I don't use the PIA Application at home as I have too many devices and want them all on the VPN. However I thought for grins I'd try the "Handshake" selection in the PIA Application while on Public Wifi with my laptop. The PIA Application works perfect when PIA DNS servers are selected in the PIA VPN application. What I found was that after changing to the Handshake option the laptop could not stay connected to the PIA Server (Denver)...I tried multiple times but it kept dropping the connection. Switched back to PIA DNS and everything went back to normal and everything was stable and connection stayed connected. Of course just like at home currently using the PIA Application with PIA DNS selected I could not connect to PANDORA (On anything App, Website, etc.)...I'm assuming that after this very prolonged period that there is a real problem fixing this as it's now been almost 2 weeks that this situation has existed.
  • So it's now been a month that I have not been able to sign into PANDORA (Pandora.com, Android App, Windows App. and other devices) if the PIA VPN is enabled on my router. If I disable the VPN on the router all will work fine. This has not taken this long to fix before. I am wondering if there's a reason other than shifting IPs. Is this the new reality as far as PANDORA? Not happy.
  • So the option for DNS handshake works for me on desktop but I need this to work on android / ios. Is this something the mobile clients will have the ability to do in the near future?
  • WORKING!!!!
