Change log:
Update Thu Sep 11 2014 - v.43
   -  To provide us information about the connected state of OpenVPN on debug logs sent to support.

Comments

  • an update that says "logs more details" is going to need to be explained further
  • Hey @asdfasdf456, from our dev team:

"Log the current OpenVPN state from the management interface"

Hope this clears things up and sorry for the misunderstanding.
  • As per the usual, here is a Dropbox link to this new version for anyone who is unable to get it for some reason. (Usually a cached version of the old version is sticking since the name is the same.)

I renamed it so I can know what versions I have, but the checksum is identical since the file has not been altered in any way.

And here we go again... I'm still getting v42. When someone gets v43, please upload it somewhere for those of us who are getting a cached version from who knows where. TIA

Thanks @OmniNegro. You posted that link at the same time I posted about not getting the new version. I'm really wondering why this is happening to me now, but never did before during the last year+.

I was having the same problem. So I exited everything, restarted PIA and DNSCrypt and fished around on different servers until I found a combination of VPN and DNS servers that had the current version. (It took a dozen or more tries, but it worked eventually. I think the winning combination was Toronto for the VPN and OpenNIC UK 3 for the DNS.)
  • I appreciate the information - and your efforts beyond the call of duty -  but don't know if I'm up to that level of trying. I tried a few different gateways for v42 the other day and finally gave up. What would we do without you? @};-
  • And 1 more mirror if anyone can't access the site and dropbox link. Couldn't get it from site either this time. No clue why but for sure it's weird. Thanks Omni.

Any time there is an updated version I will do what I can to get it and add it to my Dropbox folder for VPN clients. Here is a link to that folder since it contains 36, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42 and now 43. (The missing numbers are versions that were skipped for some reason.)

It also has a copy of the Linux alpha version, and some recent OpenVPN versions. (Nothing Mac related though. Sorry Mac users.)
*Edit* I checked and the hash of the Linux alpha is the current one. So I reworded things a bit.
  • Hey everyone!  This is from our dev team:

"I double checked that all our web servers have the same installers and they do.

So I would guess that their browser is cacheing the installer.
We have a ticket to add the current version to the installer file name, that will probably fix this issue if that is the case.

Perhaps ask them to clear the browser cache."
  • @KYJELLY - I cleared cookies & cache several times, as well as switching gateways. The files are being cached somewhere between the PIA servers and the end user from what I can tell. Who knows where it's happening. Adding a version # to the filename will probably solve this in the future. We will anxiously await the next version to see...
  • Half the people who frequent these forums have been asking for a version number on the installer for years. But it has always been a low priority.

    @KYJelly You just earned a cookie! :)
(Also thanks for the insert image and other tools being back in the comment area. That certainly helps.)
  • @OmniNegro My pleasure and thank you!  @heyitsme, I've alerted our dev team and just awaiting a response.  I'll tag you once one is received!

    Same.
  • Hey KYJelly!  Here's a REAL simple idea for the dev team - NAME the installer with the version!

How about a simple PROPER naming converntion?  (Like Omni does for his dropbox copies)

    DEV101
    ..... CommonSense101

  • Hey @DeathStalker!  Sorry for the frustration, but I assure you they're not doing that on purpose.  Either way, I'm here to help bridge the gap to try to decrease the inconveniences.  Your patience would be greatly appreciated.
  • Did the linux app update? It says when I pull up the menu "update available"

That helped- I always have the issue with the version number being 1 behind whatever the latest one is when I download the file from PIA servers.
Adding version numbers to the file is a no-brainer.
  • Wanted to share my upgrade experience:

Clicked PIA's "Upgrade Available," downloaded update, installed correctly (so the PIA installer claimed), restarted computer, but still receive "Upgrade Available."

    Tried again - same result.

  • @KYJelly,
Keep up the good job! :-)
  • I also had this issue when seeing the "Upgrade Available" notice. I updated and still saw the same notice after. Saw that I still had v42 instead of v43. After repeated attempts to re-download and install, I finally got v43. I didn't think to come here and see the new version checksum to compare (I sure will do it next time before I install it). Having to go through multiple downloads and installs is for the birds. Yes a version number on the installer would be a really good idea and take care of this issue popping up again. I'm going to be leery now when the next update comes up.
  • Thank you lrryie, your instructions worked!
    - run update installer as Admin from download file location.

Also, downloaded upgrade, coming into PIA through Toronto.
Don't know if that too, matters..?
  • Still having issue where I can't connect after update. v43. :(
  • I also for some reason cannot connect.

@GoogleFan82 & @Khalsa007, would you guys mind sending me your debug log so our dev team can take a look at it and see if they can figure out what the issue is please?
