RT-AC88U and adding a Houston connection

I did search for an solution, but oddly there were several previous questions but no one seemed to get a definitive answer on how they solved this kind of issue..so:

I've been using PIA openvpn with my RT-AC88U router successfully for years now. Tonight I wanted to add a connection for the Houston server, so I downloaded the latest openvpn.zip file and set things up just as I have with my other connections. I uploaded the .ovpn file and uploaded the .ca file...but for the life of me it never connects, just pops up the blue circled "X". For some reason (it's been a while) I seem to recall that there was something peculiar about either the order of uploading the files or something I can't recall just now to get it to work. I know it will work because I'm connected to a different PIA server right now with the same setup, but tonight this is frustrating.

Anyone have a step-by-step for installing an openvpn connection and files on this router?
