What is the "PIA Next Generation" network shown in the v2.2.1 beta?

In the v2.2.1 beta changelog, a bullet says "The PIA Next Generation network is now in preview." What does this mean exactly?

Also, what is meant by this item: "Geo-located regions are supported"?

Thank you

  • Next Generation refers to our new network infrastructure that is currently being developed.   As you mentioned, this is still in the Preview stage.

As for Geo-located regions, the key difference is that to provide the geo-located region, you will use an IP address registered to the target country to provide you with the ability to geolocate to these locations safely and privately.  You can read more about that here - https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/blog/private-internet-access-to-expand-network-with-30-geo-located-regions/

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.
  • Where can I find those Geo-located regions? I have 2.2 Beta1 under Linux and I see the setting. Unfortunately it does literally nothing, with or without it the server list is always the same
  • First, you will need to go to the Help tab in the program's Settings menu and click the option, "Include Geo-Located Regions."  Now go to the server list and locate either Mexico or Brazil - you will notice there is a small globe icon next to the server name.  When you hover the mouse over it, it will say, "This is a geo-located region."  Currently, we only have this feature for those two servers, though we do plan to roll out more over time.
