PIA ceases to work after a while?

Since a week or so, my PIA connection through openvpn breaks repeatedly in the evening (that is, evening CET), and I need to restart the openvpn service. Now PIA support is non-existent nowadays, so I'm trying to get some support here.

The only thing suspicious in the log is the message "Inactivity timeout (--ping-restart), restarting"
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to sort this out, other than "dump PIA, it sucks big time"...

Same issue for me too, have you found out a solution !

  • PIA just blacklisted me as a troublemaker, so it is getting clear to me that PIA is no longer a valid VPN.

I confirm...I have five servers configured on my router so I can switch quickly from one to another should one go down...
I am having problems on ALL the servers I have configured. Besides the Silicon Valley server which is down all the other
servers (California, West, etc.) are staying up only for a brief period and then I disconnect. What a MESS!!!
  • Back on California server and seems to be working (For now)...Several hours up time...
And what exactly is this "NEXT GEN" network going to do that the old network didn't do...
And are you going to provide server addresses for the "NEXT GEN" network for ROUTER CONFIGURATION
as I have no intention of putting apps on everything (Leaving many devices not capable of that anyway)..
  • having same issue- some communication is needed from PIA to users on what to do and what to expect as a fix and the timeline for that
  • Silicon Valley Server back working on my ROUTER Configuation this morning (Monday)...

  • I'm sorry to hear you are running into issues connecting to some of our server locations. We are currently receiving reports of outages due to our server migration/infrastructure upgrade. We recommend switching over to our Next Generation Network to resolve these issues. Please reference the following support article for information regarding our new network - https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/helpdesk/kb/articles/private-internet-access-next-generation-network-is-here-2
  • At the very least, instruct your helpdesk, as they are still maintaining there is nothing wrong with your servers.
  • Well, I gave this 20 minutes of my time, and it doesn't seem to work well. And, no, I*'m not going to betatest your crap unless you pay me to.
  • PIADevin...If you bothered to actually read my post...I like MANY OTHERS have PIA configured on the ROUTER...
I have MANY devices and no intention of putting the PIA APP on them. Let us know when the instructions for the "NEXT GEN" network is available for ROUTER CONFIGURATION. Currently everything is back working for me into Silicon Valley. If you don't intend to support ROUTER VPN Configuration in the future let us know so we can find another VPN ahead of time.

  • Hmmm. First I've heard of this massive architecture change. About a month ago, nearly every US location was assigning addresses with the same first two segments, and most web page services seemed to geolocate those addresses to the UK. I wonder if that was related to these changes? I'm certainly open to pursuing an alternative VPN, but is there a viable better one at this time? I tried NordVPN after my last PIA subscription expired, and the very first thing their installer did was force the installation of several Windows services updates that I had deliberately disabled. No prior messages or explanations, no options, just bang! I immediately yanked it and demanded a refund. NordVPN tech may be good, but their arrogance constituted a total violation of trust. Any other suggestions?
  • Sunday afternoon, PIA is not working? How many times do I need to tell you a VPN is supposed to be a 24/7 service?
