Re: August 19th, 2020 - IMPORTANT - UPDATED Server Changes and Related Issues

I tried using the Strong OVPN Files at  https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/openvpn/openvpn-strong-nextgen.zip  with my ASUS ROUTER.
It connected but I did not have the correct DNS Server addresses for the NextGen Network (Was getting leaked DNS on dnsleak.com and could not get anywhere).
What are the new DNS server settings for the NextGen network and I'll try again...Currently back on the old network (Which thankfully still works).

  • IP leaks are not coming from your DNS, they are coming from WebRTC in your browser. Go to IPLEAK.NET and look for

Your IP addresses - WebRTC detection

    No leak, RTCPeerConnection not available.

If you see any IP address then that needs to be fixed. There are instructions on how to fix this leak.

  • I have NO Leaks when connected to the old PIA router configuration using DNSLEAK.COM

Are you saying that there's a problem using DNSLEAK.COM using the new OVPN Files??

Please verify you have a ROUTER configured with the NEW PIA OVPN  files?

I could not get anywhere on the Internet (Other than DNSLEAK.COM) using the NEW OVPN FIles for the NEXTGEN network on my ASUS ROUTER.
  • Then that sounds like an issue with OpenVPN. Have you tried their forums. As for DNS on the router, I disabled that when using OpenVPN on my Cisco router. I want to control the DNS, not the router controlling the DNS. When you connect to PIA, your DNS server should be the same IP address as the PIA server. That is how I have been seeing it using IPLEAK,ET for confirming I have no leakage.

Am I saying there is a problem? Yes, somewhere there is but I don;t know where. That is why I would set the DNS address to 0.0.0.0 and let PIA run your DNS. Try that. If still having issue, contact PIA support.

Thanks for the reply...I've contacted PIA Support and they're going to get back to me...

I could not set 0.0.0.0 on my router. I could simply put a blank for the DNS IP.
I was able to use the new NextGen OPVN files but had DNS Leaks as it was picking up my ISP DNS server.
I also have STATIC IPs and DNS Server Setup on ALL my Computers/Devices. This was also a problem.
I have gone back to the old PIA network and everything is back working with no DNS Leaks and all devices
connecting correctly. For some reason though it takes a minute to connect on the old network whereas
before it connected immediately upon rebooting the router. What this means is after rebooting the router I must go
into the router and turn the VPN to the ON state as most times it will timeout trying to connect right after
a reboot of the router. It never did this before the PIA network changes. At least I am back working correctly
on the old PIA Network for now.

  • I've got my Network (ASUS MERLIN ROUTER) up and running on the NextGen Network...Thanks to new DNS  settings from PIA. I had also originally just loaded the OPVN files. Then later I decided to just use the new server addresses from the files with my old configurations. That did the trick. Everything up and working on NextGen. PIA also advised LZO Adaptive compression no longer required (Was part of the old Asus Merlin setup from PIA). I confirmed by disabling Compression  in the setup. Maybe a tick faster with that as well...No DNS leaks.
