Next-Gen servers not working on Linux with openvpn?

Looks like it is impossible to use Next-Gen servers on Linux with openvpn. The old servers worked more or less until recently, and the new servers don't seem work at all, which renders PIA useless for me. The PIA helpdesk seems to know zip about anything others but Windows, so I'm asking you guys: is there anyone who got this to work?

  • PIA customer support finally admitted this is not working, and an immediate solution is not available.

So, for the past weeks, PIA representatives have simply talked out of their asses, telling me it works for Linux because it works for ios, android and windows, and dns 10.0.0.241 should work for me because it works for them on their local network, clueless about networking, not listening, not paying attention, wasting my time.
  • I realize you guys must be using a VPN software client...
Just wanted to say that using my Router that has OpenVPN configured for PIA NextGen my linux system (18.04LTS) works great...So if the Linux Client isn't working a router based solution is an option.
My entire network (Lots of Computers and devices) is all though the Router/VPN.
  • I'm not going to buy a new router because Private Internet Access is clueless about networking; not all routers run openvpn.

    eezacque,

No problem...I just thought I'd suggest the router option...If your router can run DD-WRT, Open-WRT, Asus (or Asus-Merlin), and Fresh Tomato then all of those can run OpenVPN. I used DD-WRT before with the old PIA network but switched to an Asus Router so now I run Asus-Merlin with the PIA NextGen network.

Of course you could also run the OpenVPN Client software if you absolutely do not want it on the router...

  • The problem is that openvpn on linux is not working here.
  • Are you saying that you should be able to use OpenVPN client with the nextgen servers?  I'm late to the party here, but all I've heard is to 'use nextgen servers'.  From what I thought, the nextgen servers are only wireguard.  Is this not the case?
  • All I'm saying is that openvpn used to work, while this is no longer the case for Next-Gen servers. However, until recently, PIA claimed openvpn was working for their Next-Gen servers.
  • While it's not linux per say, I was able to get openvpn working under pfsense (freebsd) with the next gen servers.
  • I was able to get OpenVPN working on the next gen servers including port forwarding:

  • I got it working on archlinux-arm on rpi3 b+ with port forwarding on Switzerland server (next-gen server). But no port-forwarding for France server.
