Issue with PIA client on Linux regarding deprecated net-tools

edited October 2020 in Linux VPN Setup

In order to get PIA client work, I found net-tools-deprecated direct install the one single solution on openSUSE but probably the situation is similar on other more decent distributions. (PIA install is wrong about symlinking, you've to hard link ifconfig.)

I don't know how long net-tools-deprecated will be available or acceptable by openSUSE. As I see it, it's a safety issue what became more serious with time and net-tools is already deprecated for years now. I know it's easy to use more compatible stuff, that's why everyone use Windows and if you get into Linux then Ubuntu is the first choice, developers included. The problem when compatibility and convenience of developers is at the expense of security. Anyways, sooner or later PIA should start to build its Linux install with ip.

Just an example regarding this issue

It's basically more than a decade old issue, should have been noticed by PIA already:
