How do I request a refund for PIA VPN

Hello, I signed up for PIA VPN yesterday and have decided that it just isn't suitable for me. I have paid for the month but as I will no longer be using it I would like to get a refund. How do I go about cancelling my account and getting a refund? I am well within the 7 days they mention on the site but they do not give very clear instructions on how to get the refund. I have emailed customer support but have not heard back from them yet.

Is there any special proceedure I need to follow to get a refund and cancel my account?

@shimada - Sorry to hear that you aren't satisfied. I would think that email would be the best way, but if you like, try the Chat option from the home page. You should see it in the bottom right corner of your screen. If you have Ghostery or some other tracking blocker enabled you may need to temporarily disable it in order to see the Chat link.

    Good luck.

ETA: Is there a particular problem you're having that we might be able to help you with?
  • It just isn't working out for me and I would like to cancel.

Thank you for your advice I will try and use the chat option now.

  • Thanks again, I spoke to support who were very helpful!
  • @shimada No problem, happy to help. Feel free to drop in anytime if you want. You don't have to have an active account to read or post. All the best!
  • Do they refund back to original card or can you specify where to get the refund? Coz I used a one time use Visa card and it has been binned as can't reload it......not having support for windows phone has made me regret my purchase and I definitely won't be renewing given they have L2TP capability already and just blatantly refuse to make it work with Windows Phone where others like CyberGhost have done as much.
  • @ElBandito - I have no idea how the refund works. If you are within your first 7 days contact Support via the Chat option or email and see if you can work something out.
  • Do PIA give out a full refund if you are not happy with the service? I just purchased VPNWise Smart DNS service a few days ago because a friend recommended them and its 30-day money back guarantee sounds great to me. I'm satisfied with its performance so far.
  • There is no way to refund to a prepaid card. And before anyone complains, this is the choice of the card companies like Visa and Mastercard and the rest.

Yes, you have seven days from purchase to cancel. See the refund policy section:

That's good to know. Thank you very much!
  • I have asked for a refund and been in chat at least 5 times trying to get help for my stupidly slow speeds but not getting anywhere and now the 7 days has passed. I am beyond pissed off. This service is terrible. When I have it enabled the speeds I'm averaging when torrenting are about 20kB/s mostly i'm getting under 1! I got 120kB/s for about 3 seconds once but its a joke. The max speed I got was never great before vpn about 600kB/s but that was a hell of a lot better than this joke. I've tried the different settings and port forwarding and gotten nowhere. I will not recommend this service to anybody :(
  • Hello Blane!

I'm quite sorry to hear that, but keep in mind that so long as you asked for a refund within 7 days of purchase, regardless of how long it took to resolve you'd still be fully refunded. If not, I'd have to suggest emailing [email protected] so that we can troubleshoot your issues in a ticket. If you already have a ticket, please reply to it so that we can get back to you and work on making trying to alleviate this slowdown for you. I'm sorry for any frustration this has caused!
  • I can say from personal experience, I had the same issues. I installed the program, and my speeds REALLY took a nose dive. I fixed mine but it took a bit of time. Set the VPN back to all its default settings, Then I took a look at my network setting and found the problem there. I use windows 7.

As far as torrents, try changing your torrent program. I found and installed utorrent 2.2.1 leave everything set to default, and my torrents just scream. Latter versions of it were just horrible.

I just think you may be having the same issues I did. Go to testmy.net. Check your download speeds without the VPN. then set vpn back to default settings, and enable it, check your download speeds again.

Nailed it, and after reading their refund policy I should have recognized this company as scammers. The speeds I get are around 0.1 kB/s to 0.4 kB/S. It wasn't always like this but lately I've been wanting to cancel, but I am more than a month past my subscription date. I've had the service for two years now and I should have cancelled when I originally thought about it. Now despite the service being a complete joke, and paying for the service for a year I can't get any of my money back? Seriously, I will be spending the next year copy and pasting this to any forum discussing VPNs. I will NEVER and I mean NEVER recommend ANYONE ever use this PIA.

Download speeds aren't the issue from a website, despite every website hanging when I have the VPN turned on. I just tested without the VPN on and I got 49.8 Mbps, with the VPN on I got 34.1 Mbps, without the VPN I hit 3.0 Mbps with torrents and with the VPN I hit around 0.2 kB/s. PIA is just awful and unfortunately whether I use default settings, different versions of numerous torrent programs, nothing seems to work. The absolute worst part though is having every single webpage hang for a few seconds. GARBAGE!
  • Hi @MBMan ,

I am very sorry to hear you've been having troubles. Unfortunately, speed issues can be caused by many things. We would love to have the opportunity to diagnose and help fix these issues with you. If you could please contact us at [email protected] with the subject "ATT: SMR" we will help look into and resolve any issues you are having with our service.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Cheers,

  • Despite being told that I would be able to use the service for the year I paid for, the moment I cancelled the recurring payment on my credit card my account was turned off. I've been using my login and password for two years and it no longer works. Coincidence? I don't think so. PIA wouldn't give me a partial refund when I started encountering speed issues over the past 4 months. My payment went through two months ago, I was fed up and decided to cancel. Now my account isn't working after cancelling the recurring payment? I am starting to think PIA are some scammers.

You nailed it. I tried another VPN for a while. Trying to get back to my P.I.A. "Service" on an android box and the app freezes the box as soon as I try to input credentials. I also paid for one year and cancelled further payments.

  • It appears those of us that paid for a year are prone to be screwed.
