    Does this torrent file work?
    Nope, same result.

I have allowed the PIA client and uTorrent in my Firewall as well.

  • I see the "Allow incoming connections" part, but I am unfamiliar with Macs in general and have no idea what options you have. Is there an option for allowing outgoing connections?
  • There is this thread about UDP connections on MacOS, please check if that helps any.
  • Is there an option for allowing outgoing connections?
Nope, Only option is to allow or deny incoming connections.
  • I am using Mac OSX and have the same issue as pia_user. I read the first post and every post in this thread. I've used a windows PC and the proxy worked fine with it.

Can someone from PIA please get a MAC and reproduce this?

    Hello,

My uTorrent would not connect to peers when I use the SOCKS proxy. I have configured the client as shown in the first page and I know the proxy credential work because I tried it with Proxifier.

This is independant from the VPN connection status - what could be the problem ?

    Cheers,
    ParadoX

UPDATE: It seems to be a uTorrent problem, I tried qBittorrent portable and it works. Any ideas ?
  • Doesn't the proxy listen on 1080 instead of 8080?
  • Holy crap - let me check that. Seems to be working with qBitorrent, though. But still, that might be it. Brb, thanks !
  • Well, that was it. Thank you sir.
I don't even know why it was 8080.

    ANYONE!?!
I am very dissapointed by the level of support offered by Private Internet Access. Employees don't seem to monitor the forums or respond to the many users who are all experiencing the same problem. Also, it's misleading and frustrating when the support page features a picture of two agents waiting to take your call when in reality, the only support available is through a web form. Besides the automatically generated response message, I have not received a response from the support team from the message I sent FIVE days ago.

  • I monitor the forums rather closely, as T2 tech, and social manager, it's one of my key duties, however, the forums are a peer-support system, much like the IRC channel is.  We do have technicians that take calls, however, it's not something actively published at this time, as we're doing additional training and getting things sorted out internally.

Every users machine is different, your particular issue seems to be a metadata pull, followed by possibly tracker non-connections.  We know that a large number of our IP's are banned by trackers that tend to be used for illicit data transfers, and are something we're working on (Search the forum for posts made by myself.  We're not making much progress.)  The issue is that without debug logging from the application, our hands are tied.  You can provide us screen shots, data from the app, without actual debug information, showing what connections are being tried, metadata pulls that are failing (and why), all we've got is "My software isn't working how it should, fix it."  Forums are not an ideal place for the passing of this block of data, which one of the reasons we stick heavily to tickets where we can work on these types of issues.

    Hi Alex,
I would guess that combining PIA with uTorrent is one of the top five reasons why users would sign up for your service. I learned about the service and decided to subscribe after reading an article in Lifehacker about how PIA works well with uTorrent. It would be helpful if PIA posted an official tutorial of how to properly configure the client, both on PC and Macs, to be used in conjection with uTorrent. If PIA simply does not work with uTorrent because of the reasons you mentioned above, that should be made clear to users in the FAQ before they sign up.
You can provide us screen shots, data from the app, without actual debug
information, showing what connections are being tried, metadata pulls
that are failing (and why), all we've got is "My software isn't working
    how it should, fix it."
It seems that all Mac users are having this problem. Do you think the debug information will help or is the scope wider than my specific configuration?

Thank you for the response. I will open another ticket for this issue.

  • PIA works fine with uTorrent.
When retracing your steps, I realized that the torrent file of OpenOffice I supplied earlier was no good since all the trackers appear to be down. I found a new torrent file which uses one of the non-open trackers and currently has over 1000 seeding peers.

    http://tracker.opensuse.org/distribution/openSUSE-current/iso/openSUSE-13.1-DVD-x86_64.iso.torrent

Try again with this torrent. Please post a screenshot of the torrent details, tabs "General" and "Trackers", about 30 minutes after starting it.
  • Hi VPN,

I finally got it working! I disabled the firewall in the Security System Preferences. After then I regenerated my password and tried the new link you gave. Thanks again for the help.

    alexb,
I still feel that it would be helpful if PIA provided an official tutorial for both Mac and PC users on how to configure the PIA client and router to use PIA with uTorrent.
  • Supplying information directly related to a software application that is primarily used for the transit of illicit data is a very large issue that our legal team is aware of, and is looking into, as it would provide a company-level endorsement of such things.  We do not mind encouraging our member base (As VPN does) to provide guides/tutorials on such things.

While I personally use torrents for my linux ISO's, (Can't break the *NIX admin in me.  Never.)
  • I wonder what percentage of PIA's user base signed up specifically to use with torrents. I understand you have to walk the line between appealing to your customers and not endorsing a service that could be used illegally. As you mentioned, maybe the forums are the best middle ground.

    Hi guys!

I'm a mac user and have had some problems putting thinks to work with utorrent. As i've seen i was not the only one having trouble so i decided to share what i was doing wrong.

I was using the same user name and password that i was using to surf the internet. To torrenting you actually need to used a different one. Go to https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/client-support/ and login with the credentials given to you when you subscribed the service. Then there you will have a section to generate the credentials to use for torrents....and thats it :) Works like a charm.
  • For anyone who wants to communicate with the support, you can always check out these two threads: PIA IRC Channel [How to] Getting in touch with Support & Using forum Search functionality

  • I cannot get uTorrent to work with PIA. Please tell me the screenshots you would like me to include to help you identify why it is not working. I have paid for a 12 month subscription and would appreciate some help from PIA technical support here. Here are my version numbers etc.:
    uTorrent 3.3.2
    PIA v.35
    Windows 7 Professional x64 Service Pack 1
I am using the uTorrent settings recommended in this topic with the generated login details (username beginning with x).

I have started the torrent "openSUSE-13.1-DVD-x86_64.iso" which has had the status "Connecting to peers" for 15 minutes with nothing downloaded. I have tried using uTorrent with the privateinternetaccess software connected (to various countries) and disconnected. The only way I can get uTorrent to download torrents is by changing the uTorrent connection preferences proxy server type to (none) - with the privateinternetaccess software connected or disconnected. Obviously I have no protection with the software disconnected, but do I at least have protection if the uTorrent proxy is set to none when the privateinternetaccess software is connected?
  • @trlaing - same problem as me. no matter how long I wait, the download does not start until I change the proxy server to "none" and then it goes for a few seconds before it starts. i change it back to socks5, and all is fine.
after that, it starts at once I start the pc and utorrent again.
but when i starts a new torrent, then there´s the same problem again

  • I wish the OP was updated to be all inclusive. There is no mention of disabling IPV6 in OP or even a guide on the website..

    Hi,
whats the exact issue that you are facing. This is a community forum where users help each other, therefore, I would recommend that you visit http://support.privateinternetaccess.com/ and open a ticket too.
    Thanks
  • I normally can't get over 1MB a second.  Not even 300 kB/s with the VPN.
But if I use the socks5 proxy I hit 4MB/s a lot of the time nad 2MB/s steady

Is that normal or is there something very wrong?
  • I've found better way for downloading torrents. No need torrent-client, proxy servers, absolutely secured and anonymous downloads and plus unlimited speed. Just use services like filestream.me, put.io etc.
  • Hey Guys !
I'm not a specialist but I got the same problem like a bunch of other people here.
I'm using a mac and u-torrent won't just download anything. It always says no incoming connection !!! Please help me that drives me nuts.
I set up everything right and i tried all the ips.

    Please help
