  • All of their asses combined couldn't match PIA, yet they charge twice as much. Sad bunch.
  • 2364 servers. Pia getting bigger faster and better. Keep attacking pia Mr vikingvpn. It will do you no good and only make you look like the fool you are.
  • OMG!

2413 servers. netherlands 329 servers. pia's netherlands gateway alone is bigger than the combined networks of viking, liquid vpn's combined. they are pathetic in addition to charging more than pia.

heres viking's sales pitch: for $120 per year you get access to a whopping 6 servers.

  • robert, just keep in mind there's more to a VPN company than the number of servers.
  • robert, just keep in mind there's more to a VPN company than the number of servers.
i know. thats why pia is the total package. huge number of servers, huge size,no logs of any kind period, speed, and committment to privacy
  • Damnit, Irryie.  Now I'm cleaning coffee off of my Macbook's screen and keyboard.
  • Just wondering robert_lazar; Do you include this obsession of yours in your profile on dating sites too? I can imagine some of that 'dating' profile now:

Hobbies: Counting the number of PIA servers and servers of other VPN services if they post them on their web sites,  people watching me rage about other VPN services and praising PIA, raging about other VPN services and praising PIA, long walks on the beach to help me think about new ways to rage about other VPN services and praising PIA.

Likes: Counting the number of PIA servers and servers of other VPN services if they post them on their web sites, people watching me rage about other VPN services and praising PIA, raging about other VPN services and praising PIA, long walks on the beach to help me think about new ways to rage about other VPN services and praising PIA.

Dislikes: Not counting the number of PIA servers and servers of other VPN services if they don't post them on their web sites, people not watching me rage about other VPN services and praising PIA, not raging about other VPN services and praising PIA, not taking long walks on the beach to help me think about new ways to rage about other VPN services and praising PIA.

Favorite things: My special pajamas with pictures of the Power Rangers stomping on other VPN services and praising PIA, my special calendar that has dates that shows the number of PIA servers on a calendar date, long walks on the beach to help me think about new ways to rage about other VPN services and praising PIA, raging about other VPN services and praising PIA, people watching me rage about other VPN services and praising PIA.

Pets: None, its too hard to teach them to read the number of PIA servers and servers of other VPN services that are posted on their web sites. Its too hard to teach a dog to bark out rage against other VPN services and praise for PIA, cats get it I thought but it turns out it was just a hair ball.

Favorite food: Alphabet soup so I can spell out 'PIA good other VPN bad' along with the number of servers they have.

Why someone should date me: Because I can rage about other other VPN services and praise PIA. I can count the number of PIA servers and servers of other VPN services if they post them on their web sites.

thats pretty funny i even laughed about. good one llyrie. i dont have dating profiles yet,but you just gave me some good ideas.   i can applaud your efforts,i will give you credit where it is due.
if i thought i could get women to like me by making a profile like that i would do it. i just dont think many women would be turned on by a pia warrior lol
  • to add one more thing, i dont like to think of server updates as an obsession. everyone else here is accustomed to me making a post whenever pia adds more servers. in a way its become tradition. in the event the cia and nsa kidnaps me, i appoint omninegro as the person to replace me for the server updates
  • hey ,,just thought of a question for you guys. How do you want to celebrate when pia hits the 3,000 server mark?

Sounds good. I will carry the torch as needed, though I am very lazy so updates may be delayed if the NSA should decide to redact you.

Make jokes about your obsession. That is all I would do.

Your obsession is not in any way harmful, but it is fair game for jokes.

Anyone have a better idea for what to do?
  • Use all of the new servers to log into VikingVPN and taunt them? (kidding, but seemed like a good answer)
  • Use all of the new servers to log into VikingVPN and taunt them? (kidding, but seemed like a good answer)
Well, to do that, I would have to pay the $120 yearly price, for a whopping 6 servers. It wouldnt be worth the $120 to log onto vikingvpn to taunt them.

True. But I meant log into OUR 200 new servers and taunt them From there. Haha

That is a good idea. Me,you, catcher and omni should team up and bombard vikingvpns email with fake complaint messages about their expensive $120 yearly price

No. Bad idea. You would make PIA look like them by resorting to their tactics.
  • edited March 2015
Just to be clear, I was 100% kidding. It seemed like something to go hand in hand with the other mockery In the thread. I would never intentionally make PIA look bad by doing something like that. Viking may be sucky by comparison, but I don't feel the actual need to taunt them about it.
  • I still say we have a big celebration when pia hits the 3000 server mark. That will be a day that will strike fear into the hearts of viking, liquid and black vpn's forever. Think of the 3,000 server mark as the beginning of the end times for those guys. Im sure they monitor this forum and what we say. Im sure they know pia is about to hit 3,000 servers. Guys, what do you think is going through their minds right now?
  • khariz i know you were kidding. however, some of the things viking and those other guys have said and done makes it only fair that they be slightly taunted. if anyone deserves it,its those guys.  They have publicly taunted pia numerous times. I will never forget what those 3 said about pia during that heartbleed bug mess. ok,well,i guess i wont taunt them but,,,,

But they do deserve to be confronted when they blatantly lie about and attack pia. They do deserve to be confronted about their business practices. And in the case of viking and black, they deserve to be confronted about their expensive prices. And in the cases of liquid and black, they deserve to be confronted about their logging and their lies about it.

  • lets not forget that pia is the best vpn that exists today. no other vpn values its customers and their privacy more than pia.
  • lets not forget that pia is the best vpn that exists today. no other vpn values its customers and their privacy more than pia.
This statement CAN be disputed though.

That statement cannot be disputed. There is no argument. We know who the best VPN is.its pia. Not viking.not black. Not liquid. Nezzz that statement cannot be disputed. Pia is the best VPN..period.
  • I think it can be disputed, but can it be disputed well? Pick a metric and dispute on that. Most servers. Check. No logging. Check. Not based in USA. Oh, wait. Darn. Umm, cares about privacy. Check.

Some people might prefer Mullvad or AirVPN for the non US reasons. Some people are paranoid about five eyes nations, etc. For them, you'll never get them to agree that PIA is better.

PIA suits me just fine. Great price. Great service. Fast and plentiful servers. I'm not really wanting anything that I don't have. Dedicated iOS app would be nice, but OpenVPN Connect works just fine.
  • Not everyone sees the same benefits as having the same merits. So any position on any topic can be disputed.

A competitor to PIA currently has 512 bit Blowfish as a cipher. That is way overkill, but it may appear incredibly good to a person who would dispute my position on the strength of a cipher beyond 128 bits.

That and Blowfish is actually a 64 bit block cipher anyway, and cannot exceed 448 bits according to Wikipedia. (Read the link to see.)

Threefish would work better since it can actually do 512 bits key size,  or even 1024 bits, and key and block size are always the same.

I will have to look around since 512 bits in a 448 bit cipher sounds like pure BS.

Just for giggles, I went and looked to see how Astrill really words it:

" Our standard plan includes BlowFish 128-bit and AES-128 and AES-256 bit encryption. BlowFish is selected as default encryption in OpenVPN by OpenVPN creators. AES encryption is used on many web sites on the internet as a standard and it is recommended and approved by NSA (think why!).

CryptoPlus is a set of more secure encryption algorithms supporting up to 512-bit encryption. CryptoPlus can be used with Astrill OpenVPN protocol only. CryptoPlus encryption algorithms are not endorsed or affiliated by NSA in any way. Currently we offer these encryption algorithms with CryptoPlus:
BlowFish 256-512-bit, CAST 128-512 bit and Camellia 128-256 bit. CAST is used in PGP software and Camellia is Japanese and European encryption standard."

They seem to just list a range. It might just be an ignorant typo rather than them meaning to claim that blowfish goes all the way up to 512.

Edit: okay, I see in the other thread where their drop down menu actually said 512. Maybe they really mean 448, but they are just rounding up to the next multiple of 128? That's dumb, but possible.

    5) Do you have access to all your servers, and does the datacenter you
 use log?

Only our remote staff in other countries has access to our core
network. Our datacenters do not log, but in the event that a router
somewhere whether in our datacenter or elsewhere in the world may
attempt to log, we utilize a shared IP system to obfuscate and therefore
    mitigate these privacy risks.

“Moving or establishing a VPN company outside of the US/EU would do
little to protect against these kinds of issues as long as anyone with
access to the machines remains within said regions. As such, he and the
entire admin/development team are committed to remain outside of the US,
and in fact, the team in its entirety are decentralized across the
globe in countries that have historically been very reluctant to assist
the US. Simultaneously, our research team has been implementing and
    increasing our available crypto-suite.”

“As for myself [Andrew Lee], I love my country. Please do not
misunderstand, as a minority born, raised and living in the US, I am
certainly not screaming, ‘MERIKA FUK YAH!’ However, this country has
provided a climate in which people can work hard to better their lives
and, as well, enjoy great liberties which, in reality, most/many
countries fail to match. As such, I, myself, remain in the US in order
to help see to it that this country is able to continue/return to being a
land of liberty and freedom. To this extent, we’re really putting our
    money where our mouths are.”

“However, to remain in the US, meant, as well, the relinquishing of
my access to the PIA systems/network. Administrators, developers and
co-founders everywhere can relate to the difficulty of doing so, but the
reality is that it was a requirement if I was to remain here. This
policy is in place, and relinquished access I have.”

This statement CANNOT be disputed though. PIA is the best vpn.

I agree. There is no better combination of a vpn than pia. pia has it all,,,size, server numbers, speed,no logging period, excellent encryption choices, and the best committment to privacy, and finally never having turned over details of a single user, period.
  • quote from pia's interview with freedomhacker :
    1) Does Private Internet Access keep any logs, IP Addresses, Timestamps, Bandwidth caps,
Traffic or other data?

    We do not log. Period.
    4) How do you generally handle requests from law enforcement and
copyright agencies?

We are in compliance with industry
regulations. As mentioned time and time again, we absolutely do not log,
nor are we required to as the US is one of the few countries in the
world that does not enforce said requirement.

        God bless pia.

  • 3-5-15 servers:    2414 , omg!  netherlands up to 330 servers. wow.
