Ver 76 install: "Ruby crashed unexpectedly"

Upon opening the DMG and running the install file, I get the error: Ruby crashed unexpectedly.
Then tried a fresh install after deleting the previous version. Same problem.
Restarted, tried again and—same problem. Now back to ver 75. Help.

    Hmmm, trying to downgrade and reinstall from pia-v75-installer-mac.dmg, but still ruby crashes upon startup, and I now get 'disk image is broken' error. WTH???

    For those having issues downgrading to v75, could you try fully removing the app and installing v75 again? The v75 installer probably doesn't know how to handle downgrades from v76 since it's newer and there's likely some v76 leftovers.

    Hey again everyone, could you guys please post the exact model of Mac you are using? This issue seems to be specific that some CPUs in older models don't support some of the instructions the compiler used to build the Ruby executable, and this would help us pinpoint and confirm this theory. Thanks again!

    I tried removing the app using the instructions + terminal cmd. Still got the ruby error after reinstalling.

    Uninstalled PIA app w/CleanMyMac on all, restart, try reinstall and continuing to receive Ruby error on all devices. 
    How is it whenever I pay for a service vs. hack/crack/steal it ...the ones I pay for seem to give me the most grief lol!

    We're on it, please be patient :) So far we're suspecting the latest version of the app was compiled with compiler flags that ended up using the AVX instruction set, which only exists on fairly new Intel CPUs on Macs. So far only Macs from 2012 or older seems affected by this.

    I'm keeping this thread updated for every new development we have. So far we're testing different builds internally, once we're confident we have a working fix we might either post it here for additional testing or release it as v77 depending on the confidence level.
