Currently, connecting to a VPN in China is very difficult. The Great Firewall of China has been updated to seek out and block any VPN connections it can find. Fortunately, it usually does not block most L2TP connections, so we recommend using this set-up to connect within China. To set-up a L2TP connection on your device, use the corresponding instructions from the IPSEC/L2TP links found on our VPN setup guide site:
* Note: This configuration uses a specially generated PPTP/L2TP/SOCKS5 username and password, which is different from the login for your account PIA VPN App software login.
* Note: For the server setting, instead of the hostname (e.g. us-east.privateinternetaccess.com), you must use an IP address. You can go to http://www.ping.eu/ping and enter the server name from the PIA network site (https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/network/) to get IPs for the server location you would like to connect to.
* In the example output below the IP is in bold highlighted font:
--- PING us-east.privateinternetaccess.com (22.214.171.124) 56(84) bytes of data. ---
64 bytes from 126.96.36.199: icmp_seq=1 ttl=54 time=83.2 ms
