What Is a Virtual Server Location?
As of June of 2020, PIA began rolling out virtual server locations. These are geo-located servers that are not physically in the exit node’s region.
Our network predominantly features servers that correspond to their exit node’s region. However, as part of our commitment to online privacy, we recognize that this arrangement isn’t always possible in every country worldwide.
In countries where local laws and regulations prevent us from upholding our No Logs policy or where server infrastructure would not meet our high security and performance standards, we turn to virtual server locations to give our users the option to surf the internet reliably, safely, and more privately. These servers are physically located in a country nearby, so you can enjoy a fast connection with low ping.
You can recognize virtual server location in the app’s server view. A globe next to the country indicates a geo-located server.
