IU was one of the earliest adopters of basketball. They started competing only six years after the sport's invention in 1901. Early adoption gave the Hoosiers an advantage and they won the second-ever NCAA basketball championship in 1940. Did Indiana Hoosiers make March Madness in 2022?
Yes, 2022 was the first time IU competed in a March Madness since 2016. Indiana regained hope after they beat Wyoming 66-58 in Ohio in their first championship game. Unfortunately, this hope was short-lived. The team suffered their worst NCAA loss in history, losing 82-52 at the hands of Saint Mary’s.

The last time the Indiana Hoosiers failed to make the NCAA tournament was in 2021. They lost in the First Round of the Big Ten Tournament to Rutgers. Following IU’s defeat, head coach Archie Miller, who never brought the team into the NCAA in his four-year stretch, was fired.
