Big Brother is Watching You

If CISPA or other privacy-busting legislations pass, every detail of our personal lives will be at risk – and you’ll want to buy Bitcoins for safety. Although many of our foundations are rooted in anonymity, everything we see, do and buy may soon be exposed. However, technology always evolves, and anonymity is no exception.

As many already know, Bitcoin is a decentralized, digital currency that can be used like cash. What many people may not already know, however, is that there is no need to hand over all of your information to an exchange to buy bitcoins. It’s already incredibly easy to buy bitcoins anonymously, in less than 10 minutes!

Update: The following is an antiquated method to buy bitcoins anonymously. Currently, the best way to buy bitcoins anonymously is still to use a VPN or Tor and use a service like described by the anonymous member of the Bitcoin community below.

I prefer a central bank inflating my currency out of existence. Bitcoins will never work because the Federal Reserve is going to find an UN-mistakable link between bitcoins and the ‘terrists. The entity that can make money out of thin air, stealing the wealth from the nation with the stroke of a pen is not particularly interested in having that power curtailed. Especially when they are abusing that power.

Prepare for blood in the streets to defend your bitcoins. You are walking up to the King and smacking him across the face with a fish. He’s going to scream: “off with his head”. And thusly bit coins will be erased.

bitinstant appears to be a scam. I sent money to them…and, after four days, received no email, no bitcoins, and no response after contacting them twice.

Totally wrong now.  Bitinstant requires your name, birthdate, last 4 of ssn, etc…  Just read their terms of service.  It was updated recently.

Bitinstant is currently down for maintenance, so I can’t follow through to answer these questions (and don’t want to play with real money until I understand fully):

    1. When the Bitcoins go to your anonymous Tor email, how do you pay them back out to PIA?

    2. The PIA Bitcoin invoice screen at BitPay has apparently three options, URI (don’t know how to use that), manual (“Send x.xxxx bitcoins to (temporary address code)”, and a QR code which can be scanned with a mobile phone app like BitcoinSpinner for Android.  Scanning works and would send the Bitcoins, but how do you get them from your Tor email address into the BitcoinSpinner in the first place?

    3. Finally and maybe most importantly, how is it anonymous if you use your mobile phone (which is identifiable to the person making the transaction) app to scan the QR and transfer the Bitcoins?
