How to Get Unbanned from a Discord Server

Try Talking to People

Listen, the only ones who can unban your main Discord account from any server are those people who created and/or moderate the server. If you think you’ve been banned in error, try to message the relevant parties directly to make your case, and politely ask to be unbanned. If it was a mistake, you’ll likely be reinstated to the server in short order.

If you don’t have the server creator or moderator in your friends list, try to find another friend who is also on the server. Ask them if they’ll talk to the moderators on your behalf, and make your case for you.

Join With Another Account and a VPN

If you don’t have any other way to contact the people in charge, there is a way to get around the ban. It requires two ingredients: a new Discord account, and a different IP address. You can do it in a couple of minutes with PIA – the best VPN for Discord:

1. Log out of Discord
2. Create a new account with a separate email address
3. Sign up for PIA VPN and install it on your device

5. Join the Discord server again

Now that last part might be a little tricky, unless you can find an invite code posted somewhere public. If you can’t, there’s a process you can follow to join the server again on PC:

Go to Discord’s Settings page, then to Privacy & Safety. On the right side menu, check the box that says Developer Mode. Then, look in the Discord Server List page for the server you got banned from.

Right click on it, and select “Copy ID.” Now go into a browser window, and type in: “discordapp.com/api/guilds/[paste the number you copied here, no brackets]”

Press “Enter” and you’ll see the Discord app pop up with an invite to join the server again. Once you’re in, don’t hesitate to contact the relevant parties and state your case via direct message. Don’t ask about your ban on the server itself. Unless it was a total accident, it probably won’t go well for you.

Caveat: Phone Number Verification Could Trip You Up

Some servers require all prospective members to have verified their phone number with Discord to join at all. This is a measure introduced to make it a lot harder to bypass the IP and account bans. After all, it costs money to get a new phone number that’s not already associated with any active Discord accounts.

If you don’t have the option of getting a new phone number to verify on your new account, you’re basically blocked forever unless you can reach the server moderators by some other means.

How Discord Server Bans Work and Why People Get Banned

Understanding how to unban yourself from a Discord server requires that you learn how bans work. When you’re banned, two things get blocked from the server: your account, and your IP address. In order to bypass the ban, you’ll need to change both of these.
